SETAR N.V. Aruba's national telecommunication provider is the principal telecommunication company on the island. SETAR N.V. provides solutions for Fixed line, Mobile, Internet and Data.
The company's cellular communications infrastructure offers both GSM and TDMA services. SETAR has more than 70, 000 registered cellular subscribers giving the company a better than 70% penetration rate. Setar also offers trunking and paging.
In 2002 SETAR N.V. introduced international roaming for both its GSM and TDMA customers. Some countries with which commercial roaming agreements have been signed are the USA, The Caribbean, Colombia, The Netherlands, Venezuela and the United Kingdom.
GPRS, Internet chatting, ring tones, WAP and MMS services were recently introduced on the GSM network; picture sending and receiving, downloading of ring tones and logos and Internet access are now possible through the cellular phone. SMS is available on both networks as the networks are interconnected.
SETAR N.V. is also an Internet provider and offers island-wide, high-speed DSL services. There are over 13,000 DSL subscribers, one of the highest penetration rates in the region.
Another service of SETAR N.V. is high-speed Wi-Fi Internet access for laptop and PDA. The Wi-Fi service is offered at several hotspots on the island, including hotels, restaurants, bars and even on the beach for fast, easy Internet access.
SETAR also offers the 123 Instant Access with a 56 kbps dial-up service. With the 123 Instant Access one can surf the Internet without an account; this service is targeted mainly at the tourist market.
For international telecommunications, SETAR N.V. connects to the outside world via circuit switches and VoIP platforms. The international network of SETAR N.V. consists of two earth stations and fiber submarine cables via the Pan American and Alonso de Ojeda / Americas-2 cable systems.
With the available infrastructure SETAR N.V. can provide its customers with international services such as IDD (International Direct Dialing), International Operator Services, Credit Card Calling Service, Collect Calling Service, International VoIP Services, 800 Services and Credit Card Validation Services.
