What do Pitbull, Nicky Jam, Carlos Vives, Elvis Crespo and Jerry Rivera have in common? They are the Latin Superstars that performed last weekend on our one happy island, during the first edition of the Aruba Summer Music Festival! Thousands of people, consisting out of locals and tourists, enjoyed the sensational performances of these Grammy award winning musicians performing alongside Aruba’s best local bands and DJ’s. This two day star-studded event took place at Aruba’s newest event venue, the Harbor Square Arena!
The first artist of the night and a proven great start of the event was salsa legend Jerry Rivera! Bringing nostalgia back with his classic hits he also showed his Aruban spirit by featuring Aruban backup singers and band members!
Energetic Elvis Crespo gave a sensational performance, showcasing a medley of his old classics such as “Píntame” and “Suavemente” and of course singing his new hit “Tatuaje”.
Elvis even sang standing in the crowd and invited some fans on stage! He brought his whole family for a wonderful family vacation as he considers Aruba to be a unique destination.
Bringing folkloric Colombian music in a modern way was Carlos Vives; he gave a beautiful two hour performance complete with accordion, Colombian flutes, authentic mouth-harmonicas and pyrotechnics. Every single song was backed up with a video clip on the gigantic screen, so it was also very much a visual fest! He was also happy to be back on the island as he thanked Aruba for inviting him again!
The Saturday night brought a more pop orientated and younger public, reaching approximately eight thousand people, to the Harbor Square Arena.
Reggeaton rebel Nicky Jam united everyone in the audience when he showed the Aruban flag in the middle of his show. Popular as he is it was no surprise that everybody sang along with his biggest hits.
Local DJ Nutzbeatz who will also perform at this year’s Electric Festival, electrified the audience with his energetic music and mixing skills.
International superstar Pitbull greeted the audience with a warm “Kiko ta Kiko” (what’s up in Papiamento) and gave an out of this world performance! Sexy dancers, a two drummer band, great visuals… everything you expected and more from this professional performer!
