Aruba has excellent medical centers and a state-of-the-art hospital to handle any emergency during your vacation.
When choosing Aruba as your vacation destination, rest assured that when it comes to medical emergencies, such as a sudden illness or an accident, you are in good hands.
Our hotels are equipped with handicapped facilities and Aruba has multiple organizations that offer healthcare products, such as (beach) wheelchairs, crutches, concentrators, scooters and bedpans, for our visitors with special needs. Most hotels have medical doctors and dentists on call and appointments can be made through your hotel's front desk.
Aruba has 4 modern medical centers spread out over the island, the Dr. Horacio Oduber hospital which functions as Aruba's general hospital in Oranjestad, the private Urgent Care Clinic in Noord, the Centro Medico Rudy Engelbrecht in San Nicolas, and the MedCare Clinic in Noord.
If you cannot be treated here, the Aruba hospital does offer overseas care with e.g. American, Colombian, and Dutch hospitals, and the patient will be quickly airlifted by air ambulance. Be aware that not all insurances are accepted here so there is the possibility that you should pay for your doctor or hospital visit by cash or credit card.
In case of emergencies, one drugstore in each district is open for 24 hours on a rotating basis, but they cannot fill a prescription from a doctor that does not practice on the island. They will however advise you on how to obtain one if necessary.

Our Horacio Oduber Hospital boasts a 280-bed hospital equipped with reputable medical staff and modern equipment. The hospital, which opened in 1976, is located across from Costa Linda Beach Resort and the Alhambra Bazaar and Casino. Services such as oxygen tanks and hemodialysis are available. It functions as a general hospital with established ties to the U.S., Colombian, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican and Dutch hospitals for specialized treatment and care. The hospital does offer overseas medium coronary care; hemodialysis and emergency care as well as provide specialists in a wide range of fields. In case of an emergency, all travelers can go to the emergency room where they will be attended. The Emergency Department has an attending physician on site 24 hours a day. The medical specialists are on call. The facility is wheelchair accessible.

Pro-Air Ambulance service is certified to fly to all cities in the United States. Their aircraft, equipped as an ICU unit, can provide medical personnel for the flight. Pro-Air makes arrangements for ambulance service to the airport, handles all customs and immigration procedures both in Aruba and at the destination. Payment can be made with insurance that covers air ambulance transport, credit card, and bank-to-bank transfer.

Centro Medico: Dr. Rudy Engelbrecht is located in San Nicolas and is equipped with a reputable medical staff and modern medical equipment. Consulting hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 12pm and 3pm to 5pm. Emergency assistance is available 24 hours, seven days a week. All physicians are licensed and certified in Holland, the United States with some from South America. The attending nurses have received their degrees either in Holland, US or locally. The local in-service training is Dutch certified.The principal operating language in the hospital is Dutch. English is widely spoken and written as well as Papiamento and Spanish.

The center is currently directed by Dr. Carlos Yagua Jr, a general physician with a dual master’s degree in healthcare and business administration.
UCA is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 11 pm, and Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm, with a 24/7 on-call support for after-hour care. Best of all no appointment is needed in order to be seen by a medical professional – in English, Spanish, Dutch or Papiamento- at the lowest rates for self-pay patients. A web check-in portal is included in their website, allowing you to see actual waiting times and book your appointment if desired. Hotel visits can be requested, but only if you have been cleared after an initial symptoms triage-process.
The center is beautifully appointed with ten consultation rooms for adults and pediatric patients. It is fully furnished with the latest medical equipment, with point-of-care testing and an on-site level III accredited and certified clinical laboratory, allowing physicians to obtain results in less than an hour, guaranteeing reliable diagnosis and timely medical care.
