We bought a simular light weight suitcase recently. The only problem is it is too big. The last trip we just said "if there is room take it". We did and the bag was over weight and had to take shoes out at check in and put in a canvas bag and carry it as well as our carry on.
NOW we had an extra bag as carry on and were not stopped.
