Re: American car rental good or bad?
I am a member of National's Emerald Club and have been for probable 15 years. I rent at national probably 30 times a year.
Two years ago, National was unable to provide the type vehicle, I reserved (a 4-wheel drive hardtop; they had no 4-wheel drives available). I then resorted to a small local Aruban firm that provided me the type vehicle at 2/3rds the price.
I have found that the big 3 US rental agencies (Hertz, Avis, and National) have higher rates than in the US. Since on Aruba these agencies are 'foreign (to US)' franchises, they have different rules.
I have switched to the local, Aruban, market and have been pleased with the price and the service.
The following disclaimer is put in to try to minimize 'flaming' back to me:
This has been my personal experience and research, and may not represent the experience and research of others. I am NOT stating that any of the auto rental agencies are bad, I am just sharing my experience. I am an American and have no ownership of any type (including mutual funds) in any auto rental agency, US or foreign.
