i use the marriott rewards (since i stay only at the marriotts) + jetblue amex for the flight.
i end up paying 120/year for both of them in annual fees. but with the way the points work out and their generous redemption policies, i'm all for it. it actually works out for my benefit in the end.
marriott -
silver membership automatic for free - gives you 20% extra points everytime you use the card.
1 free night/year at any hotel rated 5 or under - most local hotels
5 points for every dollar spent at a marriott resort
no blackout dates
redemption rates of 120k points for 5-6 days at the stellaris. or 20k for local hotel.
jetblue
spend $200 for 1 point. 100 point for free roundtrip ticket
points for travel awarded based on a schedule - the longer the distance the more points they give. aruba and california are currently the highest.
book the ticket online and get double points. so, if you book a trip from jfk -aua you get 24 points.
if you use your jetblue amex card to book it, then you end up another 5 points. so you've already made 1/3 of what's needed for a free trip.
3 years of $40/fee = $120.
thus, $120 = roundtrip ticket from jfk -aua
