Yes unfortunately not the case though sometimes housekeeping will put up the security bar and lock the door after cleaning your room.

Do the rooms have shampoos and conditioners, or should I bring that type of stuff? Are towels easily obtained on the beach?

The shampoo is an all in one shampoo and condtioner from a wall dispenser. I dislike it. Instead of lugging my own from home though I usually run to the sundries shop right there at the Tam before our first showers and picky up Aruba Aloe shampoo and conditioner.

Towels are easily obtained. When you check in you will receive towel cards. You will turn them in at the towel hut in exchange for your towels. You can turn your dirty towels in each day and retrieve the cards, or do as we do and just turn dirties in for fresh at the end of the day. They keep the card for the duration of the stay and we have clean fresh towels every morning. The towel hut is a short walk from the buffet restaurant behind buildings 1400 and 1500. This is the same spot where you can claim floats and noodles each day. Bicycle and activity sign ups are there as well.
