That is correct they do allow people to reserve palapas ahead of time for 30 or 33 dollars per day. What they don't say is when you get to the palapa desk if a palapa on the display does not have an "X" on it then it is still open.
The other problem is the time you will have to get up just to stand on line. I am not going to state a time since that only perpetuates the problem.
The beach also has a sand problem due to the slight angle of the building to the wind, it creates sand devils from hut numbered 1-43 but now with the Riu 43 to 75 also get sand funneled and then blown onto them.
The Westin is not the only high-rise with a palapa problem.
