Hi,

I'm looking to rent a time share unit for the 1st time in the summer of 2010 and was wondering:

1- How do you know that the person that you are dealing with over the phone or e-mail actually own's the time share unit that you are discussing?

2- What are typical payment terms, should I be paying someone in full right away?

I'm excited about this but I'm also a little nervous about getting scammed.

Any thoughs/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

as someone who has been renting her bluegreen/lacabana units for a few years now, i have a few pointers for would be renters

please do not start out telling the owner "I definaately will rent your unit."

please do not complain when the owner asks for a casheier check/bank check or money order

please do not drag the owners thru the ringer. have some semblance of order. have your list of questions and make sure you write down the answers that you get.

please check references on the owner we, the owners do not want any part of the deal to go wrong.

i had a bad experience today.
i went head over heels to accomodate a person that said she was definately going to rent my units. i did everything but stand on my head and spit nickels.
only to be burned in the end.

this happened 10 days ago too only to be told, that there were too many "foreign people" at the resort....................WHAT!?!?!?!

SO PROSPECTIVE RENTERS......please do your homework and get everything in writing.
Owners, be patient and have a glass of wine or 3.

andrea
and yes i still have lacabana units for rent from now thru 2010.:o

I know it will be cold for stone but we would put throw rugs of some sort. We will go with 24"X24" tile. If we do go tile, Marble or granite I have a 150 gallon fish tank that I will do a border of river stone about a foot to a foot and a half wide.
Any comments welcome.

hello, everyone this is my first post and it will be my first time to Aruba. we are staying at the La Cabana B&RC. i have two questions to start off with; we are looking for info on the renovations that are going on there. we are not going to be there until July 2010 but it never hurts to get as much information as possible. we were aslo considering the "dine around and beverage experience" has anyone done this and is it worth it? is it essentialy an all inclusive type plan? i see there are three meals per day and drinks, but are there restrictions on the number of drinks? just curious, i know how high a bar bill can be and i really dont want to be surprised with one. any info would be greatly appreciated. we are extremely excited about going and hope to hear something soon. Thank you.

Hi All,

I've read on TA that the Riu is quite accomodating when it comes to requests. I emailed them to request adjoining rooms (not sure if the Riu even has them). Since we are two families, adjoining rooms would be very convenient especially if one couple wanted to spend an night out and the other parent couple stayed with the kids. I know a request is just that..a request and that there is no guarantee they will honour it, but here's hoping. Has anyone here contacted the Riu Palace to request rooms in advance and if so, did you receive a repsonse from them or did they just acknowledge the request once you arrived there?

Thanks!

Hi everyone! I am planning my wedding for this coming August. I had originally planned to have the civil ceremony as well as the blessing ceremony. But after reading posts on issues like not getting documents back timely, home state not accepting the marriage certificate (i.e. DMV) - I am a little weary and now are considering getting legally married home (NY) and having my blessing ceremony as planned. I've already had issues with the wedding coordinator not returning my emails. To that end, I guess I am just trying to get a consensus on what ever one thinks, is it better to be married at home and then just have the blessing ceremony? Also, if I do choose to have just the blessing ceremony, what documents are needed if any?

Thanks!

The News bankrupt after 58 years
18 Nov, 2009, 07:30 (GMT -04:00)

The office of the free English newspaper The News has been closed since two weeks. The court had pronounced an adjudication order at the beginning of this week.
ORANJESTAD — The court had declared the bankruptcy of the English newspaper The News last Monday. A few employees of the newspaper had filed the petition in bankruptcy, as they had not received a large part of their salary for September and October. The bank accounts had been ‘blocked’ by the bank so that the newspaper had not been able to fulfill its obligations. The judge had rejected a request for postponement from the lawyers of the family business.
A loyal reader had given the following comment on hearing the news of the bankruptcy of the newspaper: “No News is bad news.” The court had immediately appointed a curator on Monday to liquidate the property of the bankrupt company and come up with an apportionment amongst the creditors. According to journalist and photographer Rosalie Klein, a former employee and one of the bankruptcy petitioners, the downfall of the newspaper was not only due to financial hard times. “Of course, this had played a role, but personal circumstances of the owners and the lack of management had also contributed to the downfall of the newspaper,” said Klein. The last straw had been the blocking of the newspaper’s bank accounts by Aruba Bank due to mortgage payments in arrears, according to the journalist. Moreover, the company supposedly also had tax problems. The company could no longer fulfill their obligations, amongst which the personnel salaries, after the accounts had been blocked.
The newspaper had been popular with tourists. Gerardus Schouten and his wife Bernadette Schouten-Blanchard had established the newspaper in 1951. Schouten had originally come to the island with his wife to work at the Lago refinery. ‘During strikes, he had started printing a newsletter to keep the employees informed of all developments.’
Even though The Lago Colony had published a small internal paper named the Esso Times, The News is considered as the island’s first English newspaper, Rosalie Klein explains. The newspaper had also been the first Aruban daily paper that became a member of the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA), an international press organization.
By one’s own account, the newspaper had also been the first daily paper to be printed in color. After Sonia Wever-Schouten had become general director, the newspaper had been the first – and for a long time – the only one that had been published on Sundays.

Consider myself a foodie (read obsessed) and this will not only be my first trip to Aruba, but my first real vacation in many, many years.

I HAD THE MOST WONDERFUL WEDDING, WHICH EVEN I COULDN’T HAVE DREAMED OF!

I began planning my wedding Jan 2008 for a Nov. 2009 wedding. My mother-in-law, Mary looked at several resorts in Aruba on my behalf, since I have never been to Aruba she did the research for me. Mary recommended the Radisson for the people, the atmosphere and the beautiful landscape they offered. To tell the truth, from the moment I signed the contract with the Radisson I was hoping I made the right decision. After all, planning a wedding via email is not an easy task. Lisa Dammerman, bridal specialist at the Radisson was AMAZING! Everything she promised she not only came through with but exceeded. She was with me the entire step from multiple (I mean multiple) emails for over a year, to being my “go to person “on the island for our entire stay (we arrived on the 31 and married on the 6th). I felt like the only bride on the island. I can’t find words to describe the amount of attention and first class style she put into my wedding. We had 75 guests fly in for the wedding and I had shipped 5 boxes of personalized wine glasses (info on shipping carrier below) and brought personalized coolers and koozies as the oot gifts for people, which she had ready for my guests as they arrived with perfection! Lisa also recommended the DJ, Tino. He was perfect and played everything as we had wished. We met with him a few days prior to the wedding and he was fun and happy! At the ceremony she had things down to a science. The wait staff was also amazing. They had so many people available to us, that there was never a line at the bar and the buffet style dinner was soo yummy. The food was amazing and everyone commented on the buffet display setup and the food itself. The reception was the party of the year! Every one of our guests could not tell me more about how this was the best wedding they have ever been to. I credit my girls, Lisa, Lissy and Angela for this!
I had Lissy from Ceremonies and Celebrations for the ceremony and civil ceremony portion of the wedding. I can honestly say she was splendid as well! I know it’s so hard to believe, but the crew of ladies who helped me are all tops! She booked my hair and makeup girls, which I was scared of because you never know and I have to say, I have never looked so good in my life. All 7 of my bridesmaids looked amazing and the ladies did their hair and makeup in a style to fit each girl. If I didn’t like something they would do it all over, although I liked everything they did right down to the makeup!!!! Lissy was there for the civil and made everything happen as she had said. She helped keep me calm and reminded me to chill and have fun! She kept everyone on schedule the day of the wedding and really, she was awesome! I emailed her a picture of what I wanted the flowers and cake to look like and seriously, they looked exactly as I had wished. The flowers where beautiful and the isle looked like something out of a fairy tale with the lanterns and tropical flowers! Oh, it was just breathtaking! The steal pan player Lissy recommended was spot on with the emotion of a wedding and a beach wrapped in one.
I used Angela from BellaAruba photography for the photos. I just got married a little over a week ago, so I don’t have the pictures back, but I did see a few and the ones I have seen are gorgeous. She even captured my 7 month old with smiles, which is not an easy feat! She is personable and listens to what pictures you want while also teaching you about the sunset and how to capture those perfect backgrounds. Advice for me would be don’t bring your own photographer. Use Angela, she knows how to get those sunset pictures and pictures in the sun and shade and where to go on the island for the best shots and how to look etc…,things your photographer at home most likely will not know. She took some family photos of us a few days prior to the wedding and the pictures are amazing. She is very laid back and knows her stuff! I would highly recommend her for photos whether for your wedding or if you just want family pictures while on the island. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!
The entire wedding day was more than I had wished for. All my guests are still emailing me telling me it was the best wedding they had every attended. I highly recommend getting married in Aruba. The people are the nicest hardworking people you will ever meet in your life (from the hotel managers to the wait staff to the cab drivers) they are just really good people. If you want to have the wedding of your dreams use Lisa Dammerman from the Radisson, Lissy from Ceremonies and Celebrations and Angela from BellaAruba photography!!!!!
Email me with questions, I have tons to share!
This time we are contemplating an excursion. The two that caught my eye are: the jolly pirates and the submarine. We are two families, with 4 kids ages 4-9. Any suggestions?

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there are kids activities at the Riu Palace during the day? We're 2 families staying there in Jan with a total of 4 kids (ages 4-9). They are good kids and are content just hanging by the pool / beach and playing in the sand, but the 9 year old was wondering if there is any kids activities going on during the day that they may be able to participate in.

Also, how are the nightly shows at the Riu? and are they held indoors or outdoors?

Thanks!

If you are looking for cheap, good food for lunch I would suggest trying Mama's Snack Truck Shop. It is across from either Amsterdam Manor or Lacabana. The place is wonderful and delicious. Usually they have a mix of meats such as chicken and steak. It is so tasty that just thinking about it is making my mouth water! lol! The truck is only open for a while and sells out very quickly. I would suggest going around 11:30am. You can not find a better meal for the price you will pay!
