Talking Atv Rides

We visited Aruba June 3 and rented atv's from kinikini rentals. We were very pleased with thier service.I would also like to note that they do grade your atv performance and make a judgement on how much of the trail your party can handle. We had some inexperienced riders and were given some what appeared to me to be easier trails ,although still challenging.I recommend you call them and speak with Christine. They are a family owned and operated tour and made us feel at home.We were a party of 15 including 4 doubles and we had a ball.I highly recommend dive gear for yhe natural Pools.Tour with the ATV's 1st because they will take you to most of the sights and you may not need to book other tours.

Recent ATV tour experience

We just returned from Aruba in late June and took an ATV tour with Rancho Daimari. I would not recommend them. First, we payed for a 3 hour tour. We were picked up promptly but people picked up with us payed for a 2 hour horseback riding tour. The tour we payed for was cut short as all of the people were returned together to the hotels. The 2 hour payers had only waited on us shortly. It was rush rush at every stop we made. The ride back was extremely fast and I felt somewhat dangerous. We had 20 minutes at the natural pool and it was at least a 10 minute walk to get there. I was injured at the pool (I realize it is swim at your own risk, but never warned of what happened to me). I had only been in the pool about 20 seconds when a HUGE wave come over the top of a rock formation creating a huge current that deposited me out of an opening into the sea. Huge cuts on me and had to be pulled in by other swimmers! BEWARE!!!!! Also, our ATV and the couples with us had NO back brakes! Beware and be careful! The tour guide even mentioned that tips were appreciated. I would recommend a jeep tour if you are given a very specific map to the areas of interest. This way, you get to take your time at the stops. If you get in the natural pool, I would recommend staying around the edges and hopefully what happened to me won't happen to you. I left with cuts on knees, wrist, hip, and a huge knot on the side of my leg! I wish I had been warned before my visit. The ladies with us did not attempt the natural pool after seeing what happened to me.

We too had a bad experience with them last month. I will elaborate in my trip report, but from our experience they are just con-artists.

I am very happy for you that this had a happy ending. Please let this be a warning for other folks. The signs posted are not to be taken lightly.

Imho, that is about as unprofessional as it gets, but like I said from our short lived experience with them, this must be typical of their operation.

Do you get to go to the The Natural Pool on the half a day atv?

I am a new reader. I was in ATV tour in Aruba, but I never felt myself in danger. If you follow the skilled tourguide it won't be any problem. Sometimes we need feel some danger and we need adrenalin boost. It is fun. Also fun the recommended jeeptour. Another type. But if I suggest something new it is an off-road tour with TomCar. Safe and really exciting. Check out http://www.go-out-aruba.com/index.ph...e/detail/id/65
you can find lot of info about this. It is really good. :-)

We booked with Aruba Off-Road for their Tom Car tour, however cancelled when they changed their itinerary three days prior to exclude the Natural Pool.

IF YOU DON'T SWIM, do not go snorkeling??? It's just my opinion but if you don't swim I would be very hesitant to do this. Even with a life jacket, if you lack swimming skills what will you do if you fall? Snorkelling involved going in a boat, jumping out of the boat (sometimes in areas that are quite wavy) and swimmng around to look at the fish! Yes, you can go to Baby beach but I would think you still need to be able to swim?? If you go by yourselves, where would you get life jackets from?? Non-swimmers are asking for trouble to try this kind of water activity....again, its only my opinion!
So, then you live in a bubble?

Everything is life in general can be referred to as being not safe. I mean, before you even get to the island. You have to get in an airplaine.... lol

Live life, and enjoy it.

Im sorry, but thats just my opinion.

In my post, I believe I stated that it was my opinion!! Of course everyone must make their own decisions and of course, no one thinks bad things will happen to them. It has nothing to do with living in a bubble as people make choices all the time. However, when something bad happens and it is reported then people discuss previous incidents and then comment on why did those people take such stupid risks!! Why would someone go snorkeling if they don't swim??? Come on, if this person drowned everyone would be all over this story as how ridiculous was it for a non-swimmer to go and do an activity without any swimming skills??? People drown even if they are swimmers but we still go in the water but why would you do this if you don't swim??? Living in a bubble, I don't think so, common sense is more appropriate!

If you go back far enough (it appears that you are a new poster to this forum??) people have been badly hurt on ATV tours. Some people are perhaps more skilled or have used ATV's before, however, most people are on a trip and think this would be a fun adventure. If you read back, the safety standards that we expect in North America are not the same on islands and as a result there have been some serious accidents. I am not going to go into details as I did not post the reports but go back and read them. As an example, a while back a poster wrote about his wife having had a serious accident that involved her having to be airlifted to Miami. The company did not supply helmets (this apparently has changed with some of the companies and some only give them upon request) and she sustained a major head injury. He was warning people.

To conclude, I respect your opinion as I had hoped you would have respected mine. Just felt I should clarify my comments.

Randi, I appreciate your honest opinion...and I agree with you 100%.
Common sence should prevail and I am glad that you pointed it out.
