Bananna Tows

I would like to take the kids 6/9yrs on a bananna boat(?) ride. Can anyone give me the skinny on this activity? Where/When/How Much $ ?? etc. Wife & I did it years ago on honeymoon in Barbadoes and really enjoyed it!! Kids are pretty good swimmers and would probably have a floation vest. Info ? Comments? Thanks in advance to all.

You'll see them all up and down palm beach. There are bannana boats and tube rides. I recall it was around $15 for a ride.

Re: Bananna Tows

When we did it last, the cost was $15.00 and we were required to wear a life vest by the company.

We signed up AquaExotic near the Holiday Inn. They have since changed their name and moved down the beach to the Allegro.

Our run started at the Holiday and went South all the way down to the Tamarijn and back to the Marriott before returning to the HI.

You will also see them at Eagle Beach if you are staying at that part of the island. You can get them on the beach at the Divi if you are staying down there. Our kids loved it.

Re: Bananna Tows

We just got back from a wonderful time on the water..... Around palm beach, the Bananna boat rides were great, as were the tube rides. Our children, age 9, 12, 15 had a blast being towed by the boats numerous times. Even Dad and Mom enjoyed both the tubes and bannana boat! (Things we do for our kids!!!) Bananna boat was cool even for this 50 year old dad. You will not fall off unless someone on the back decides to do some intentional heavy up and down bouncing. Same with the tubes that you sit down on that are the 2 and 3 person tubes. Very difficult to fly off unless your legs are out bouncing on top of the tube.....and even then, hanging on to the hand holder cords should prevent you falling off. Make sure you get a deal that allows mom and dad to go for the boat ride FOR FREE if the kids are being towed and you don't want to tube yourself.... Some try to charge $10 or $15 for the boat ride but just negotiate and tell them the next provider up the beach will not charge.

If you go on the tubes you kneel on, you are guaranteed to soon be whipped-off into the water and of course, the kids already know and want that to happen! Life vests are provided for everyone and sinking is completely impossible or needing to know how to swim isn't even required. Saw many kids go that were 7 and 8 on the kneeling tubes and they would all go flying off on the sharp turns.

Found no one that will agree to a $15 ride. The cost is $20 per person for 30 minutes on bananna boat, and $20 each for 20 minutes on the tubes. Speed is based upon exactly what you want.... with an easy thumb up for faster and thumb down for slower as the boat driver is always looking back at you. Kids that are good in the water will love it and their thumbs will all be up! Do not book these trips at the hotels, which will charge you a premium price and you will get less time. Walk down the beach and ask at each tent area where they provide these rides. Some that have their own boats are cheaper than the ones that have to radio another company or boat to come and pick you up. Do not go by the tubes that are laying out on the beach that are used to attract attention to their site. The tubes that look old are not used..... They will take you just up the beach for the new tubes with the back rest on them.

Also, try the parasailing. They are all the same price for about 15 minutes in the air. Do not pay more than $40 each instead of the $50 some will start with. (They will do $40, especially if you agree to pay the $20 for a tubing trip) A tandem (for 2) parasail is available. (pay no more than $80) Combined weight for two cannot be more than 300 pounds..... Great for a Mom and daughter together! Take a disposable camera up in the air and the pictures are incredible!

Also, do not rent a "raft" from the beach providers that charge $5 an hour.....get exactly the same one for $4, a fraction of the cost and you can keep it for the whole day for the $4.....direclty from your hotel towel center.
