Dingy Sailing in Aruba

Sailing in the ABC’s

I found this video and although it is a regatta in Curacao, this is why I stayed at the DIVI/Tam last year. I now always bring my sailing cloves and reef walkers.

Enjoy the music too.

Don’t forget your cloves, when it’s blowing 20 and you have to dump the main you want some leather on your hand.

You can also get lasers and hobbie rentals along the beaches.

Great video Mike. I am staying at the TAM for the first week in December. Are the sunfish easy to check out? How long do they let you take them at one time? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Dave

Thumbs up

Hi Dave,
Yes they are easy to get from the sports desk at the Tam. But keep in mind due to the high wind at times they can be hard to handle. When I when there was only 1 other other guy who could sail in the higher winds that week. If you sail in the wind shadow of the Tam you will do fine.
If no one else wants it you can use it all day but I think your body will give out first.
I was serious about the gloves buy a pair at west marine, wear reef walkers or sneakers because you will hike out.

Here are some pic's

Great photos Mike...I'm excited to go sailing in Aruba. We'll play the wind and try to find a relatively calm day (I know - lots of luck). Good idea about the gloves and the water shoes. Thanks,

Dave

Let me guess that photo #5 was NOT you right! Thanks so much for sharing. Too bad only one boat, db and I could have revived some family rivalries. You know, the stuff you tell your kids about years later, re-enacted for them to see first hand?

I cannot even begin to tell you how excited dd is going to be about this...well, maybe not quite as much as all you can eat ice cream and pop corn and the free soda...but...close.

I never said there was only one boat
This could start the 1st annual Aruba's Divi/Tam reggata.

There were 2 when I was there. The activities center manager is hesitant to take the boats out because of the wind. The first day there for us it was blowing over 20 and he would not take a boat out and it was also late in the day, they want everything back by 4pm. The really good thing is the rescue boat is anchored right there. And the wind surfers keep them pretty busy. There was a 3rd guy on the second day and he capsized pretty far off shore and needed help, he never tried again. I guess you can get two if the wind is not too strong AND you can convince him you have experience.

Thanks Mike. It is amazing they have a rescue boat. I would imagine a lot of resorts would not bother with the extra expense.

I'm sure you have seen it, it's a 12-14 ft wooden red boat with rescue on either side. I have seen it used at the Westin this past july, It always seems the vendors are helping each other. If you watch while you are on the eagle or south part of palm beach you will see the guy bring it back at night to I think the fishing pier.
