    Moomba Beach Chair Rental

Pardon me if this is a repeated posting as I may have included something like this in a past trip report. Has anyone else encountered issues or seen the rude behavior of the chair rental company Pair-A-Dice at Moomba Beach? I am asking because I have a friend on island right now who saw their deplorable behavior towards cruise visitors visiting the beach this week and reported the incident on the Aruba Facebook page.

If you are not familiar with Moomba Beach there are two sets of Chairs. One that is owned by Moomba Beach and are free to use; they like you to order from their menu if you use their chairs but it is not required. One is owned by a Pair-A-Dice.

My issue is that they yell at and bully cruise people into paying for their chairs even though they have already paid for the shore excursion via the trip they booked. I have seen & heard this argument on many occasion and my friend there now just saw it again this week. God forbid you move one of the free chairs into what they consider their territory. Then the real harassment begins. I say cruise people because it is easier to spot them when they arrive via bus & with their cruise bag & towels; but I have seen this behavior time and time again from this couple over the past severl year.

We all know that the beaches in Aruba are public and that anyone can use any beach anywhere and that it is perfectly understandable for people to own a business renting chairs to earn a living. Lord knows I have happily paid my fair share at Baby Beach and am thankful that I have a place to sit while there. My issue is with the downright rudeness of this couple and the way they treat vacationers. I am sure that this is not an experience the ATA would want a first time visitor having. We cannot be the only people to notice and report this ongoing issue.

Thanks for letting me vent and get that off my mind.

There have been responses but no other accountings of seeing this company in action. My sisters and I go every Carnival season and our friend goes in October for two weeks and again with us for Carnival. We noticed it years ago and really pay attention to how they interact with other beach goers. They are not the example of what I feel to be Aruban Customer Service. Not that I expect Pollyanna and sunshine every time but if you are trying to sell something you should be a bit nicer. In my opinion anyway. Thanks for passing along this information Andrea.

    Hi ArubaJAK,

Sorry to hear this but thank you for providing feedback to us. I will forward this to our guest services department.

When exactly did you share it on our FB page? Can you please provide the link so we can address this issue?

Thank you so much and have a wonderful weekend!

Pair Of dice had a fishing charter at one time and he was trouble then. I was threatened by him when I asked to keep a fish I caught while on his charter. I also witnessed him throw a punch at a fellow fisherman at the dock for taking business from him. His boat was in a fire, and has moved to renting chairs. He is constantly annoying the people in that area. Glad to see someone is being notified. His name is Monte.

I think the issue with Monte and the chairs are that his license only allows him to rent chairs within a very specific area which is close to the Moomba chairs. If people move the free chairs to "his" area then he can't rent chairs in any other location so he probably tries to keep "his" area clear for himself.

Not sure if this is correct but that would be my assumption.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. I spent 17 days perched along the rock border at Surf Club in Palapa #310 watching activity at this rental stand and the areas in front of it and Moomba's. There is interaction between those I commented and the umbrella stand.

    Concerned with Drugs

The activity and bad experiences will continue and potentially increase unless there is foot patrol or some authority brought down on them. If dealt with now, the impact can be minimized. If not, the stories being told to others will have people make other choices when selecting vacation destinations.
