Renting an Underwater camera?
Does anyone know if there is a place to rent one of these? Mu wife is into scuba diving and wants one, we're undecide on buying one before the trip or renting one if possible.
I hate the idea of having to carry 2 cameras in the carry on baggage as well as two e readers.....but wouldn't dare put them in the checked luggage. For the same reason, I'm very leery of bringing my metal detector. Cheers, Greg

I am pretty sure JADS may rent them. Pelican rented them but years ago.
An option to buying a new uw camera is to buy a housing for the digital camera you have now. Dh picked one up <$40 US on eBay. It works perfectly and we have never had any issues.

I've sent an e-mail to jads about renting a good camera that's good to at least 50' and they tried to sell me a dive package???? I replied asking just for a camera rental, but now they won't respond to my e-mails. I have a good canon t1i, but the cheapest case I was able to find for it runs $1,200!!! Anyone have any other suggestions on renting a fairly good camera? Since I will only be freediving it doesn't have to go behind 80' at most.

At more than 30' you will need a hard case or dedicated underwater camera. Mermaid offers a digital camera rental, not sure if you have to dive with them or not.

Just got back and unfortunately mermaids didn't have anything to rent. Either they no longer rent or just didn't have anything in stock. I did find a cheapo that went to 100', but the wrecks I was diving where a bit dark and the flash was hardly noticeable. Not sure how the pictures came out, but it was better than nothing. If I go back i'm just gonna bite the bullet and pay for the $1200 case for my nice nikon.
