Snorkeling Hazards

Hello All,

Should we be worried about any hazards while snorkeling?
  • Boat's ?
  • Seadoo's ?
  • Jellyfish ?

Don't really have a plan yet as it is our first trip there. If I have to rent a car to get to the good spots, then that is what I need to do.

Suggestions? We have our own gear.

Don't touch the coral , besides getting stung yourself you'll kill the coral head eventually.
definetly rent a car. Go up near Boca Catalina. You'll know your in the right spot when you see all the Sail tour boats pull up. All along there is great snorkeling.
Not too many jellies in the water.

Enjoy

Boca Catalina is a good spot. If not wearing fins wear water shoes. There are a few thatched roof umbrella things that you can leave your towels, sneakers, etc under. Don't however leave the rest of your important stuff there.

The website http://www.shorediving.com/ does just a fantastic job of describing and mapping out the different spots you are able to snorkel from. Yes, I know the title says "diving" but if you read the reviews of each "dive" spot, though the website is for "shore dives" there are many many comments about snorkeling these sites as well.
Some of my personal favs:

Catalina Cove (just north of Boca Catalina)
Boca Catalina (shade palapas)
Malmok Beach (rocky)
De Palm (on De Palm Island, thus not free)
Mangel Halto Reef

For additional snorkeling there are some less epensive options to De Palm Island.
Tranquilo- terrific snorkel, outer reef which none of the other excursions go to My review of our excursion
Jolly Pirates
Octopus

We went with the Jolly Pirate for my first snorkeling experience. We snorkled at three different locations and then they stopped the boat at the end before we went back so you could swing from the rope swing. They had beverages and it was a lot of fun..

Aruba is our paradise
