Snorkeling for kids

Is it safe for children (I have 7 year old ) to snorkel. Can't quite swim yet but loves the water. Any shallow areas we could go where he can touch bottom or do you need to be in deeper waters? We have no gear and will be staying at the Renaissance. Looking to snorkel a half day.Would like something nearby. Can we rent gear somewhere? Thanks.

Take a boat ride, Depalm tours, they have 3 hr snorkle sails with all the gear. They also have those life preservers for little kids. You of course would have to be out there, but its tons of fun. The boat is called Palm Pleasure. Kids are relatively inexpensive, parents pay more. CHeck site for prices. We've been on them 3 x, and plan a 4th this april. We too stay at the renaissance and love it.

There is great snorkeling right at the private island associated with the Renaissance. You can rent snorkeling equipment on the island and you swim a short distance out to the protective rocks. The water is not too deep and you can see many colorful fish. We take our 4 and 6 year old children to snorkel there and they have a great time. They can do this wearing water wings, a bubble, or any type of flotation device. Have fun!

See you in Aruba!!!
