Given a choice of Bonaire or Curacao for a day trip, I would choose Bonaire. Take a tour of the entire island and get a feel for what Aruba "used" to be like. I just wish Bonaire had nice beaches like Aruba.

if aruba had bonaire's reefs and spectacular diving
    and
if bonaire had aruba's magnificent beaches

    we'd have a real conundrum

    loved bonaire
    love aruba more

We've been debating a side trip to Curacao or Bonaire for our fall trip. I'd really like to hit some of the hotter dive spots in the area.

Dove Curacao only once and though only a shore dive, imo, 100% than Aruba. Only snorkeled in Bonaire, but that was like being in a fish tank.

i did shore and boat dives in bonaire and it was magnificent.
    saw so much.
did a night dive and it was scary.
bonaire is the only place where i have gone deeper than 100'.

bonaire would be a good alternative destination,,,,,,,aruba #1 still in m y liking.

You can go to Venezuela, but I don't recommend it for only a day. You will need at least two or three days. Then you can go to Henri Pittier National Park (about 4 hours by car) or to Paria. (1 hour by plane from Caracas)
    Both is quite safe.
To stay in Caracas is really not a good idea in my opinion. Not interesting & not safe.

Here you can find some pics of my two trips to Venezuela.

I'm sure that both the places in Venezuela that you mentioned are safe; but, since there are warnings...and quotes from many of our Aruba.com about how unsafe Venezuela is...I, for one would just enjoy our Paradise in Aruba.

Not a sermon, just a thought.

You have to fly from Aruba to Bonaire or Curacao. You can take an island tour of either island and see most of the highlights in one day. Bonaire I think would be easier to see in one day.
