    Carubbian Festival- Thursday evenings

sFor those of you in Aruba, Thursday Oct. 11th..........and looking for something to do, I visited Charlie's Bar & Grill in San Nicholas yesterday and found out the City and local businesses will be having their weekly Carnival festival.

This is not the main Carnival Aruba is known for but is carnival-themed as businesses will open up in a street festival event. There will be outdoor vendors, entertainers, etc. I was also told lots of parking is available alongside the wall of the Valero refinery.

    San Nicholas Thursday Nigh Carnival
    Always on Thursday
    Time: 6pm - 10pm or until...........

For those visiting for the first time - stay alert and use common sense and you should have a great time.

Carnival in San Nicholas - Thursday nights

As a follow-up to my post from being invited to Thursday night Carnival street festival in San Nicholas.......here is my recap.

    1. As you arrive on the main street on the way to Charlie's, a policeman directs traffic. There is plenty of parking alongside the wall of the Valero refinery. We parked adjacent Charlie's as we are very familiar with that area.
    2. The event is well organized.
    3. The theme is vibrant and vendors are there who want your business.
    4. Alcohol (drinks) is available and appear to be $5.
    5. Most food dishes are $5 - We got a curry dish which was very easy to split for 2.
    6. If you like Oyster soup/stew - look for the guy as for $3.50 you can't beat it.
    7. Also, it was nice to see the local businesses open and be part of the event.
    8. There were plenty of buses who brought people from wherever. We drove and it's nothing like having your independence..........assuming you know where you are going.

What I really liked is the event is about a year old and according to some of the vendors I spoke to, they truly enjoy the event as it provides economic stimulus and allows San Nicholas to be seen in a positive light. I was happy to contribute my 2 cents and the people were very happy to accommodate those in attendance. Also, I read something about a $20 cover charge, BUT WE WERE NOT CHARGED ANYTHING, other than what we consumed.

    Here are a few shots

For those who might be worried if it's safe in San Nicholas......YES THERE ARE POLICE WHO PATROL AND ARE PRESENT

I had the opportunity to experience the Carubbian Festival during my last visit back in August of this year. We get there well in advance of the show and used the time to walk around the street where the vendors were set up. One of the things that I noticed was the strong Police presence, especially the ones in uniform, no telling how many were in plain clothes. Saw the famous Charlie's Bar which I had heard a lot about from on-line and through the novels An Island Far Away and Under A Blue Flag( two great books by the way). The show was great and a lot of fun, before leaving we got to take part in a small Carnival parade following behind the brass band and masqueraders, I highly recommend checking out the festival in San Nicholas. It's a fun time for all.

Hi Thanks for the update. Does the carnival have some steel pan music playing?

    Sounds like a great time.
