I don't know if you have to pay anything to the Aruban government. If you do, I guess that would be a good reason to gamble elsewhere. Say Las Vegas.

If you are a US citizen you must declare anything over $10,000 in cash. There is no duty on it though.

You will have to declare it on your income tax if you are a US citizen, so I guess yes, you would have to pay tax on it eventually, just not before leaving.

not sure if you have to pay aruban taxes on winnings over a certain amount, but as arubalisa states, you have to report it on your income filings. however, as with all gaming wins, you can easily offset that gain with a corresponding loss on schedule d of your 1040 as gaming loss. as long as your wins and losses are a reasonable amount of your overall reported income (so, you can't offsett a million dollar payout) the irs accepts it. besides, in order for you to win those amount you probably spent at least an equivalent amount if not more. however, you can never offset more than your winnings....doing so will raise red flags.

btw, going back to my previous post - b/c you can easily offset gaming wins with losses - people recommend you never pay the tax upfront at a casino if possible. certain casinos require you to withhold taxes above a certain amount but some don't. if you have to option not to, you shouldn't.

Same here, someone in my group won a lot at a slot. They gave cash and didn't ask for any info from the person.

They do, however, like to take your picture for the paper. That picture is reviewed by the customs/immigration people according to an acquaintance. DH always says - don't let them take your picture!!!!

Jackpot Wins

I was in Aruba in October and won four, yes four! jackpots that would have been taxable in the US. I was never asked for any ID or anything. I just was given a stack of $100 bills. I did play with their players card, so I guess it could be traced to me, but I doubt they would. They want us there to play and spend $$$. Using the players card for a week, we got $1,300. off our room bill at the Marriott. Not bad considering I came home about $3,000. up for the trip.
