Sample of what last night was like!

This was from last year - take this and have it take place all over
the island. From our balcony in our house (don't have a video camera)
the sight is spectacular but you need ear plugs. And we are in one of the
most quiet neighborhoods on the island!!!

Lizzardo,

I guess your post means you survived the shelling!

Hope you and the cats are well.

It was 2007 - description says:
Crazy New Year's Eve fireworks on the island of Aruba. This was filmed from our 6th floor room at the Renaissance hotel in Oranjestad. We were told that the average family spends $250 on firework...

It is true that people spend major bucks on fireworks here. Mick
was like a little kid the first year. Couldn't believe the major
fireworks you could buy!

Here's some more recent videos

10 years ago we enjoyed our first christmas/new years on island.
all of our other aruba trips had been in the summer.
we had NO CLUE as to how loudly the arubans celebrated new years and it began prior to new years.
we were at the beach at the TAM and all of a sudden folks out in front of the resort we heard loud bomb like noises.
Oh My GOSH we thought it was a coup d'etat we ran over to the the watersports area to grab kevin and friend that were doing a windsurfing lesson. we had to "protect them and ourselves from the uprising!!!! it was only after making fools of ourselves being in panic mode did we realize that there was not a coup d'etat, it was firecrackers celebrating the new millennium.
