Where to go with a car?

    You might know the situation:
You’ve rented a car for daytime sightseeing and in the evening it stands unused in the parking lot.

So the question is where to go on that evening while still having the car?
Any special location in Oranjestad? Maybe a mall and afterwards a nice music bar or something else?

    Regards,
    Volker

we take the car to dinner, to see a sunset at lighthouse, to various casinos.
there is a nice wine bar at the alhambra, unfortunately/fortunately when taking the car out at night and if planning on alcoholic beverages, someone must be the designated driver.

typically our rental car often sits in the lot all day and mostly only goes out at night.

I just read about the "Arawak Garden" strip. Is it worth to go there, maybe have a drink at the Soprano's?
Because we have an AI package it's not necessary to go out for dinner .

Sure! That is a great area to walk around, get a drink, go to the next interesting place for a drink, stop at the shops and little mobile stores along the street, listen to the music coming from the different venues. It's a great time if you take that step back and just enjoy it!

Here's another take to the question. From my years of being here and speaking to many, some who have rented and some who do not.......it boils down to your personality and what type of experience you are seeking, as well as convenience. Having a car provides tremendous freedom to explore Aruba "after dark." We have been to most of the towns/communities and have come across some great finds. Again, if you are the adventurous type or you like to "explore" you will be glad you rented. At the same token some come to the island with the plan to stay in their resort and simply use a taxi or bus for minimal activities.......THAT IS FINE, if that is for you. But, with you car and the proper planning.....experiencing Aruba at night can be very positive. From Oranjestad, to Noord, to Santa Cruz or even San Nicolas and in between, that is how you can truly enjoy the various Aruban culture. That is just my 2 cents, and admittedly we are more of the zany type......but that's a good thing.....at least for us.

When I have been to Aruba I always rented a car and enjoyed it very much.

As you have AI you don't need it to go for dinner. But there are still sooo many gorgeous places to have a drink or ice cream or just enjoying another glorious sunset from a different location.

Some of my favorite places for sunsets (or during the day or for dinner) is the California lighthouse. On the way to that lighthouse is Arashi beach, a lovely spot for swimming or just picture stop.

Another of my most favorite spots in Aruba is the small street along the beach from the High Rise Hotels to the Low Rise Hotels. The sand of the beaches are just so white and the turquese water of the Caribbean is breathtaking.

I also enjoy very much driving to Oranjestad and walking along the yacht haven, checking out all those beautiful yachts, looking out to the ocean, walking along the Marketplace Mall, sometimes there is live music at the restaurant "La Plaza" there or "Salsa" dancing lessons are given in one of the restaurants. Then crossing the road to Renaissance Mall for window shopping, sightseeing, looking at architecture, fountains, the "river" leading to Renaissance Island and having some ice cream or a drink. Then there is the other mall which looks like a huge pink "cake"! LOL There is so much to see that I usually go several times to Oranjestad, I just like the ambiente. Sometimes, there can also be those giant cruise ships be seen. I love looking at them as well.

In Oranjestad are also some nice museums. But they are only open during the day. I went to them and enjoyed it a lot.

In the High Rise Hotel area is some night live to be seen at Paseo Herencia Mall. They have sometimes live music, a light and water show, lots of restaurants and shops, some booths along the streets. And when it gets too much, there is an easy access to the beach for a nice stroll along the water.

That's all for now. If I remember more, I'll post it.

    Thanks for the informations!

But maybe the reason for my question wasn't that clear.

Yes, we'll rent the car to see some more of the island than only the beach in front of our hotel.
But ususally after the daytime sightseeing the car is left in the lot.
We just want use it also in the evening after dinner. Then it is easier to know where to go instead of strolling around and wasting to much time. That's why I asked .

The Bon Bini Festival takes place every Tuesday evening, from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. It is located near the Renn marketplace so plenty of parking is available. It costs a few bucks to get in, but it's something you should try to do at least once.

We always use the car at night and never during the day. The day is for laying on the beach and enjoying Happy Hour at the pool, sounds like I have the opposite problem!

At night we use the car to go to the casinos and the marketplace for dinner.

Here is a link about some night live. However, I have not been to Aruba in a while and don't know what's going on nowadays. Maybe someone else can chip in?
