    Blossoms?

My boyfriend and I will be visiting Aruba in July 09. This will be my first time there, but my boyfriend used to go all the time as a kid so hes pretty familiar with the Island. He keeps telling me how he remembers the japanese restaurant Blossoms (located in the Westin hotel) being fantastic! Has anyone been there recently and is it worth it? I'm a sucker for Hibachi style food!

We have been to Blossoms (Japanese) yearly and have always loved it but this year we were very disappointed.

As always, they rush you in and out. No dinning there but as regulars we are very aware of this (last year they asked us to go after sitting for a few minutes after we paid our bill and there was no one waiting outside for a table) but this year was too much!
Our waiter appeared for our order minutes after being seated. We hadn't finished eating our soup (we were a group of 8) when they plunked down our salads. The show was not as good as it had been in previous years (possibly the waiter was new?) and the prices were rather expensive.

We tend to go to this restaurant on a night when we arrive or have something to do as you can count on being out of there in one hour and 15 minutes! For the price of this meal, we really questioned whether it was worth paying the price of a nice dinner but being hurried out and if this place was really good value for your money. For the price they are charging you could go to any of the nicer restaurants and get a "dinning" experience. I might mention that the food, which we have always loved despite all of the hurried atmosphere, was not up to par this year.

Having said all of that, if it is the show you want and willing to pay and recognize you will be finished dinner is about 1 1/2 hours, then go for it!!

The "show" is the cooking. The chef does all this stuff while preparing the food. Really, once is really enough as the jokes and showmanship are always the same. Our kids have always liked going and have always loved the food. This year, THEY said it wasn't the same and didn't enjoy the food as much or the "show"!

Thanks. I knew Behihana had a "show". Didn't know Blossoms did.

I remember when it was the Wyndham, the restaurant was great, now that the Westin took over, because of the extra money they have to make up, they reaised the price, and its gotten a reputation so thye thing cutting on customer service a little hear and there no one will notice. I will try it again this year if I make it down, but if I have trouble like you Randi, I will report it to my friend Patrick Donovan who is the Sales and Marketing Director.

their food is pretty good but the price is on the expensive side. paying 20-25 for beef and brocolli seems outrageous considering i can go to the local chinese take out in nyc and buy it for 5-10. the restaurant's ambience is not great either - it's in the lower floor/basement of the westin hotel. the hibachi show is the same ones you'll see at benhihana's (spelling???)

The Chinese side is excellent and we enjoy that very much. Yes, they did up their prices from last year. For $25 p.p for a steak meal, I could go to L.G.Smith for a true dinning experience. Aside from the disappointment with the food this year, all the other stuff (rushing us with our meal, etc) I could overlook but compiled with the price increase it no longer makes that much sense to continue to go. Its too bad because we did enjoy the food!
