    Question Carpe Diem

Has anyone eaten there recently? What is on the menu? Pricey? We were in Aruba in March and they had a soft opening with only a few selections to choose from. Thanks in advance.

    Next Aruba trip in

we went by "carpe diem" no less than 15 times, from may 9 - 22, mostly early evenings on way to or from dinner or to the casino.
not once did we see any customers inside.
once, when there was a cruise ship in town, we saw a young couple buying a cup of coffee and cake from the take out window.

i do not understand.......how can this place survive ?

My friend and I ate at Carpe Diem last October. There was a wedding party there taking pictures so we though the food must be very good. The menu was mostly fish/seafood and sushi which my friend & I don't eat. We both ordered a pasta dish which was horrible. We told our server that we were not happy with our meal and she took our plates away. The chef came out and we explained that the entrée was very salty. He apologized and said he would make the dish over. Well it was just as bad the second time. Then the owner Michael came over to our table and talked for 20 minutes complaining about his employees. That none of his employees listen to him and he will close the restaurant down and go into bankruptcy if his employees didn't shape up. We never did have an entrée but he did comp our asparagus soup and pistachio ice cream (both were delicious). It turns out that the wedding party were only there to take pictures (the bride & groom asked if it would be ok). I said to Michael at least they bought drinks. He said they brought their drinks into the restaurant. I doubt I will give this place a 2nd chance. When downtown I might go back to have a glass of wine at the bar.

    that is very unfortunate liz
they are in a great spot, but if the food stinks do too, then they will never have customers/diners.
the day that i had the massage at the oceans, there was a cruise ship in town and i stood at the balcony overlooking the street watching tons of people walk by and not give it a 2nd look.
also too, paddock was very quiet each time in the evening we went by. (not as dead though as carpe' diem) remember the years when the paddock had a wait?

I only know this restaurant when it was still "Don Charlos" and back then, there were always customers there and some kind of live music. It looked nice and inviting, a simpler Italian restaurant at the harbor.

When I look now at the FB site and the pictures of the new "Carpe Diem", it looks very different. IMO, it does not even look like a restaurant anymore, more like a collection of mismatched antique furniture which does not even look comfortable to sit on, and not to have lunch or dinner. The dominant color is white which makes it even more "uninviting". But that is just my opinion and observation. The owner had probably the best intentions to create some kind of "eye catcher".

I don't know about the menu. But if they mainly serve fish and sushi, they limit themselves to their customers, IMO. On their FB they offer the following:

Dining early between 5pm and 7pm??
Come and try our Early Bird Special Menu for $35.
2 appetizer choices, 3 main course choices and Chef's desert of the day.
Offer valid from June 1st till June 30th and not valid in combination with any other special

IMO, to offer a simpler meal between $10 - $20 to get customers in, to have some "life" in there, would be better. And customers can then always choose for more options.

    Here is their FB:

    https://www.facebook.com/carpediemrestaurantaruba

I wish them Luck! It's a very nice location and it would be great to bring it back to life!

We tried eating there last Nov. but the service was so awful (almost laughable) that we left after one drink. It really is a pretty spot and nicely decorated. If we ever go there again it will be for a drink or two when we're downtown and walking by just to see if the service has improved at all.

Sounds like they need to be on "Kitchen Nightmares" or "Restaurant Impossible".
