Charlie's Bar

My 5th trip is coming up in October and I want to visit the other side of the island... really Charlie's bar, it sounds like such a cool place, I must visit. We dont rent a car because we just dont feel the need... we always stay downtown at the Ren. so we generally take the bus if we need to get somewhere... Anywho... is Charlie's easy to get to if we ride the bus? anyone know the best place to get off?

i do not frequent charlie's bar.
been there once and that was more then plenty.
apparently lots of folks that call a trip to charlie's a "right of passage"

possibly san nic 44 (a member here) or taxidriver could give you the information on where to exit the bus.

:-)

Have you read An Island Away? It is a novel that takes place in and around Charlie's Bar. It was written by Daniel Putkowski. Pick it up...if you love Aruba, you will love this book!

daniel putkowski and (community forum member) San Nic are one in the same!

again, drop san nic a private message and ask him for his opinion on what bus stop you should use?

We drove out to Charlies once - we combined it with a trip to baby beach. I really enjoyed my lunch there - my wife was not impressed.

We always take guests there - the honeymoon sauce is great! There are bus schedules in the front of the telephone books if that helps.

I love the HOT honeymoon sauce on the steak sandwich there - also love the COLD Balashi on tap in the frosty mugs.

You need to sit at the bar and converse with the bartenders for the most fun - we've always found that sitting at a table is kinda boring unless you're with a large group of friends.

I agree that Charlie's Bar is a true Aruba experience and spending some time with Andy the bartender is a lot of fun. The food is decent (great Honeymoon sauce if you like spicy), the drinks are really good, and the atmosphere is truly unique. It is a perfect stop on the way back from Baby Beach and it's kind of sad how deserted San Nicolas is.

And remember, bring cash or stop at an ATM because I think Charlie's still doesn't take credit cards. We were down to our last dollar as we finished the last shot of Patron
