Do food photos influence your choice?

I was just looking through the 10 Best link that Andrea posted and realized how much food photos influence my dining choices. Restaurants that show photos of the whole fish being served, automatically rule out that reśtaurant. Not fair, I know because I'm sure they serve other dishes I would enjoy. Photos with lounge beds and shear drapes just creep me out and no matter how good the reviews are I'm not interested. Show me a photo of Dutch Apple pie and I'm there, no matter what the restaurant looks like! So when you are checking out a reśtaurant site do you want you see photos of food or seating areas?

I'm mostly interested in the menu with prices. Was just checking out Bucaneer which was on one of those list. Never ate there so will try it on my next trip hopefully this May.

    exactly what Peg says.

there are some forum members here who love the food in bed kinda restaurant...........and i think that is definitely NOT my style.

photos of the big cooked snapper...dead......with mouth open......teeth showing...scales etc, makes me want to throw up.
paul and i went into "red fish" in november, were seated, were sipping on our drinks and the folks on either side of us started chowing down on whole fish.
    i was nauseated.
so we had to leave before we ordered dinner.
the waiter person thought we were nuts.

photos of watermelon salad.......as well as strawberry salad .. YUK....and cannot even watch people eat it.

show me something presented nicely (and the flowers on the plates make me nauseated too) with very little sauce OR a big fat slice of choloclate cake and I am guaranteed to be a diner.

    photos mean a lot!

I'm with you on the lounge beds, not a fan, and probably wouldn't try a restaurant that had them.
I am a sucker for food photos, they have a huge influence.
Not sure when, but we will be back

Food photos have an impact on my choices but not a major impact. They give me an idea of portion size and an idea of what to expect from the kitchen. I put a lot more weight on recommendations from people who've been there (thanks guys) and prices.

When we're in Aruba, the people we dine with have a big impact. It's difficult to deal with the variety of preferences they all bring.

Love food photos...... especially desserts and big ribeye steaks! I always check the rack of lamb..... if I only count 6 bones..... I expect to be short changed because a full rack has 8...! OK.... so I'm a dweeb....!

OMG Andrea; love the retro link. When I was growing up my mother actually made that seafood mousse, shaped like a fish, for a church potluck supper!!! Coffee jello also was always a staple, drizzled with evaporated milk.

On our November trip I really wanted to go to West Deck. However, we didn't end up going because on their Facebook page they had a photo of whole fish. It was propped up on the plate to look like it was swimming!! That night we opted for Hollywood Smoke House which I loved.

No... Food photography is a pretty specialized skill set and very few photographers do it well. I tend to go more on word of mouth and reviews. Some of the best meals I've had wouldn't amount to much in an unskilled photographer's hands!
