    El Gaucho Review November 2017

We have had El Gaucho recommended to us many times, but had never been. Sometimes I tend to avoid restaurants that get too much publicity, because I often find that they don't live up to the hype. All week we had people recommending El Gaucho, so we figured we should see for ourselves. We left El Gaucho feeling like been there, done that, it was good, not great, but we are glad we tried it. I would go back with a group, but not as a couple. We prefer Tango to El Gaucho and when staying in Palm Beach, that will consistently be our choice.

The restaurant itself is kind of like a maze with our table being tucked in a little hallway type area, extremely close to the couple across from us, so much so that conversations were almost unavoidable. There were 2 men singing with a guitar from table to table. They were fine, but it seemed loud and disruptive to us. You know when you were a kid and you went to the place that did the loudest most obnoxious happy birthday songs - that's what it felt like to me. I'm sure for some this added to the atmosphere, we are not those people.

    The food:
We asked our waiter to recommend an appetizer and garlic shrimp was the choice. It was a small portion of 4 shrimp, but did taste good.

Jon had to order the signature Gaucho steak. It is huge, and was cooked to order (medium rare). He liked it, but did feel like it was a bit over-seasoned which took away from the overall flavor.

I had the short ribs, which almost fell off the bone and I loved the flavor. I would order this again.

For dessert we asked our waiter for his recommendation and we ended up with a chocolate fudge cake. It was good, not knock your socks off great or anything, and I enjoyed it but probably wouldn't get it again.

I forgot to mention - you get 3 sides per dish and the sides were good, but the portions of each are very small so if you really like something, order 2 of the same thing.

last time that we were at elgauchos was when the pope was an altar boy.

for you gaucho fans........how long have they been serving their entrees on plates instead of wooden platter/plates ?

seriously, we have not been there for a long time..maybe 10 years.
we found the steak better at madame janettes and we also liked the atmosphere better there.

    tracey,
we were there during our recent visit (11/4-1/19). prior to this time we have not been in so long I can not remember. we had not been not because of not liking the food, rather there are so many other places to choose from we just stopped going to the same ones altogether.
so, that being said, we all ordered the gaucho...huge, cooked perfectly for everyone. chimichurri sauce perfect, I could it it on everything !!! yes, those guys drive you crazy singing, but that's part of the appeal or schtick !!! we didn't get appetizers since we all knew how big the steaks were, but even though we all ordered different sides we still shared them so we each got a taste....my niece hated the plantains, said they tasted like spoiled bananas, I laughed and told her she was crazy (she is really....), but other than that we had no complaints, might put it back on rotation for next visit

Andrea, I do love MJ's, but get tired of eating outside, especially if the "no-see-ums" and mosquitos are visiting......but the portions at MJ's seems to have become smaller as well.....el gaucho, as I mentioned above was the first visit in probably the same as you...10 years give or take...enjoyed going back....agree on location, but had no trouble finding a parking spot close.....

Many of us can dine at a restaurant and have rave reviews and others can dine at the same place and have a terrible meal. I think it depends on the day.

This rest doesn't sound like a good fit for me. The best steak I ever had in Aruba was at Matthews. However, I would like to try LG Smith Steak House.
