Your mention of small plates reminded me that when were looking up info on Elements, they do mention "European portions" These were by no means small plates but the meals were sized just right to enjoy without being stuffed.

Would your husband consider walking the card up and keeping an eye on it the entire time? I know people who do this to ensure no funny business while the card is out of sight. Perhaps another option would be a prepaid visa, the kind that is being used by AAA as a replacement for travellers checks. Just be careful that you get one that can be used internationally.

Your comments about kids, I think that's why I would never considered Barefoot a romantic dinner. Nice and fun,and good food, yes, but not romantic. There were a couple kids running back and forth to the bech and their table. They weren't bothering anyone, just not my idea of romance.

The 18+ is what keeps me from going. Only one kid is over 18 and for me, vacation is about family time. Someday that may change, but for now I cherish every second I can get with them

Identities can't be stolen with a credit card (just to dispel that myth).

Credit card charges can be reversed so it's the safest way to "spend" money anywhere - cash can't be replaced if you're mugged or lose it.

A lot of restaurants, SuperFood and Ling's are now requiring PIN numbers if you're using a chip-enabled credit card - another level of security.

"Elements" isn't kid-friendly anyway. Unless you'd like them to get their wine-palate started early in life...?

Oh I know identities can't be stolen from credit cards but try and tell that to the very stubborn Irishman I live with- hah! Even my kids crack jokes about ohhh we can't do this or that because someone might steal my identity, right Dad. I gave up the fight on this a longgg time ago!
