French Steakhouse SUCKED!

Well this was my 2nd time eating at the french steakhouse. First time I kind of felt service was bad, and food was ok. So this visit my father wanted a steak real bad so we went there mainly cause it was at our hotel and I didnt feel like driving to El Gaucho. What a mistake I made. What people see in this place I do not know. Food is ok, nothing great. Prices are high for mediocure food I could get back in the US. Overall I felt bad since it was my parents last night in aruba, and they got a not so great meal. I should of taken them to El Gaucho but hey, live and learn. People rant and rave about this place and why, I have no clue. Food isnt great, its ok, and to me if your paying almost 30 bucks for a steak it shouldnt be just ok.

Lesson learned, never again,
chris

Thumbs up

>>>> "What people see in this place I do not know."
---- Now never get steak there but their Catch of the Day is equal to any restaurant on the island. And always have had great service.
>>>> "I should of taken them to El Gaucho"
---- Now we have not been there in many years as always felt like a sardine there.
So I guess just depends when you go to any restaurant in Aruba and what you order. Usually go to the French Steakhouse on a Sunday and sit out in the Garden Room.

Chris, I feel about El Gaucho the way you now feel about FSH. We've always loved FSH, always get a steak. I'm really sorry you had such a bad experience.

Just as we won't return to El Gaucho, you won't return to FSH. And no one can blame either one of us.

You go girl! I've never been to French Steakhouse, but was thinking the exact same thing about El Gaucho. Quanity over quality imho! for a fairly tough piece of beef. And who needs soggy corn on the cob that badly?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the FSH is one of my favorate restaurants on Aruba. I have been eating at the FSH at least once or twice a year for over 20 years, and I have never had a bad meal. I think the atmosphere is nice, the prices are quite reasonable, and the steak is outstanding. I am also not a fan of El Gaucho, and in my opinion, the steak at the FSH is much better. To each his own.

In this aspect I need to agree with Dom. It is the same as some people drink only Johnny Walker Black while others drink only Old Parr. Both are 12 year old scotch whiskey of high quality standards.

I personally love El Gaucho but last week I went to Cooks Restaurant, because many locals highly recommended it to me. I decided to give it try and I don't regret it at all. The steaks are big, the food great, the admosphere is very nice and different from El Gaucho, and the prices are reasonable. The good thing is that they have options for smaller size steaks and they are one of the very few restaurants that have Lamb Stew cooked in the traditional Aruban way.

They have happy hour every Friday which was great. I give it a 10 out of 10. Its well worth the try.

Eventhough they have a lot of goats here, amazingly enough they do have sheep. What they do is they shave the sheep due to the heat. But don't think that the goats you see running arround are shaved sheep.
They've told me that the way you may differ goat meat from lamb/sheep is that the sheep/lamb has less of a smell or taste and the meat gets tender quicker, while the goat's meat is a bit tougher and it takes a bit longer to get it tender. On top of it, the goat meat has more of a smell and taste to it. Additionally, the lamb/sheep meat is more expensive than the goat.
