Cook's

We enjoy Cook's, about 2 blocks from El Gaucho, toward the airport. Ommi is a great host and the steaks are great. They are remodeling, and now sure when they will reopen.

Pretty sure that Sept. 5th is on a Saturday this year.....only reason I know that is because that's my birthday.

Not everyone...Out of curiousity why have you not been back? We were there about 12 or 14 years ago and vowed never again. Dh and I both felt it was quantity over quality and much prefer a US certified black angus over churasco. But that is just us, there are plenty of people who swear by the place.
Having said that, there are tons of people of LOVE El Gaucho. Nothing wrong with going and giving it a shot.

Let me put my 2 cents in....I had 2 unpleasant times there. First one, food terrible, second time, our table of 20 got accused of trying to steal the one set of s&p shakers they gave us...YES, thats right, 5 employees stood by our table and interagated us....., YEP.one set for 20 people..if they are so valuable why even use them, put some cheap ones out and don't worry about them being stolen.
Its your choice, we'll never ever go back...

First time we went there it was around 1998. We thought it was okay but felt rushed and didn't really enjoy the "dining experience". We have a friend who has been going to Aruba since she was around 12 years old and loves, LOVES El Gaucho. So she dragged us there around 2001 with some friends and we had a great time, great steaks, and great Sangria. Been going every year since then.....but, we always go with a group of friends. If it was just the two is us, we would opt for someplace more romantic...but with a bunch of friends and good steaks (and leftovers for steak sandwiches on the beach the next day), it's a fun night!

My wife is a chef and so when we travel, we dont skimp on our dining choices. We wanted the best aruba had to offer for each meal. We found that the service kinda stinks everywhere there. The people are nice, but it's not what you'd expect with the pricetag. I think it stems more from the employees never having the opportunity to experience good service like what you get in the states with fine dining. Of all the places we ate, El Gaucho gets my vote as the best overall value, ambiance, service and food. What you get for the price there blows every other place out of the water.

I think after the first time there,(was 15 yrs ago so don't remember too much). But have only been back to aruba about 4 times since and there are too many other good restaurants I wanted to try, but I think maybe we will try them again this trip.
