Love your new avatar Cindy! I'll have to try your recipe. When we were in Aruba the amuse at Wilhelmina was Dutch pea soup. I never thought I would like it. Didn't even really want to try it. It was fabulous!

I think most of Europe makes pea soup this way. I am Polish/Ukrainian and this recipe (I was able to enlarge your photo on another FB page) is almost identical to the soup my mother made for years and years. I grew up eating this soup. Love it!

    Here is it....
    CROCKPOT DUTCH PEAS SOUP

1 16 oz bag split peas rinsed
1 meaty ham bone or 2 cups cut up ham
    1 cup sliced yellow onion
    1 cup sliced, small, carrots
    2 ribs celery chopped small
    2 cloves garlic
    1 bay leaf
    1/4 cup fresh parsley
6 cups chicken broth( I use more)

    layer in crockpot as listed
    Do not stir
cook 4-5 hrs high OR 8-10 hrs low
    Over night is easy

i threw all veggies in Cusinart and chopped
I added 1-2 more cups of chix both as it was quite thick
pull out the bone and bay leaf before serving
