    Current Fav's

    #1. Madame Janette
#2. El Gaucho- Im surprised more people dont go there or dont pick this.
#3. Smokey Joe's- easy less pricey, yummy ribs and great key lime pie.

This year we are going to try a few new places and who knows we might have new favorites after.

We are trying: Amadeus, and Barefoot. Anyone have any comments for either place. Recent visitors to these restaurants?

Been to Amadeus many times - love it there - great food!

Also went to Barefoot and it has great ambiance (it's located in Marandi's old spot on Surfside Beach.) Everyone at my table enjoyed their food. I loved my salad but had a so-so entree - but I chalk it up to just a bad pick on my part. I'd definitely go back again and try something else.

Guess I need to update my faves since I posted my picks back in 2009.

    Passions (beachside dining)
Carte Blanche (for an amazing culinary experience)
    Madame Janette's
    Screaming Eagle

When people I meet at the beach find out we are "regulars" to Aruba they always ask what are your favourite restaurants and the first two jump right out with a few others vying for third.

Two top picks are Barefoot and Anna-Maria without question! (More on my restaurants when I do a trip report as I just returned home two days ago)

The third is hard as we enjoy L. G. Smith and Windows very much too.

Amy, we have been to Barefoot 4 times in the past few months and I have had a fish each time but prepared different ways. Usually I speak with Luc (owner) to help guide me in my choice and he hasn't steared me wrong yet. They have a varied menu so next time perhaps get some guidance to help select something more to your liking.

Thanks, but no guidance is needed. I knew exactly what I was ordering but I felt the sauce they used for the grouper was way too heavy for that type of (very light) fish. That's just my own personal taste. I've known Luc for years from various restaurants - he does a pretty good job at Barefoot. Everyone just has different tastes as far as what they like and don't like.

amy someday if you are ever wanting to try a magnificent grouper recipe, (very light ) try cooks the chef does a grouper stuffed with salmon and there is a very light saffron sauce.

    it is magnificent.

I love saffron but I'm guessing the sauce will contain a lot of butter? I'm not a fan of butter. But I'll have to give their menu a look and see if anything looks interesting. Thanks!
