On Monday Bobbie and I had yet another major decision to make. Should we lunch at home or at one of our old favourite standbys. Again, this required a significant effort on our part to make this decision. Making decisions on an Aruba vacation can be very taxing on the mind. In addition there is then the substantial effort of having to get into the car and drive to a restaurant.
Well, we decided that since we had not been to the Terrace Restaurant at The Westin, that we would muster up the energy and visit. The day was a little cloudy and some wind but not enough to discourage us from sitting beachside and enjoying a nice lunch. At the end of our lunch, the winds started to come up and the clouds were rolling in very ominously. Our charming waitress brought us the bill in a little black folder and after finishing our drinks, we placed a number of $20 bills in the folder to pay. Well, then the fun started. With a hiss and a roar, an enormous gust of wind blew over our glasses and picked up the little folder. The bill was gone, but so too was the money. $20 bills sailed across the Westins gardens and down the beach. Then followed the pursuit. Waiters, Waitresses, Security personnel, babes in bikinis, patrons of the restaurant…..all chasing the windblown and escaping cash. Waitresses pulling apart the shrubs to look for the money, bar attendants on hands and knees looking under bushes. I think one of the more humorous moments happened when one of the restaurant staff came up with the suggestion to release some more $1 bills into the wind so that the probable path and location of the missing money could be tracked. No problem, more money is released and merrily blows away down the beach.
Well, at the end of all this we got back some money, but not all of it. In a very gracious move, the restaurant manager asked us how much we had lost and deducted this amount from the bill.
ONLY IN ARUBA!!!
