King Ribs!
At last! I made it to King Ribs in Oranjestaad. I've been hearing about it, reading about it, and driving past it. Now it was time for Sunday BBQ. I rolled in around 12:30 and was surprised to find only three people ahead of me. The coals were hot, the ribs atop smoking, and the chicken grilling, too.
In order to sample a couple of things, I ordered the four piece chicken and large ribs. Both platters came with smashed potatoes, corn on the cob, and boiled plantain. The corn on the cob was sweet, sweet, as they say here. Potatoes good, too. The plantain? I'll pass. The chicken was good too, just plain grilled. The ribs had a bit of rub on them and the sauce is sweet, tomato based. All good, all reasonably priced. This is my new favorite Sunday BBQ joint and now replaces the previous title holder. I'll be back. For photos, menu, prices, etc. see: http://bentpage.wordpress.com/2011/0...ng-ribs-aruba/ Bon dia. 44 |

we did 3 KR visits while in aruba this past trip.
i am partial to their chicken, hubby loves the ribs. and we even brought 2 dinners home to FLA and had a taste of Aruba on Wed night! the chicken/ribs and potatoes froze wonderfully. i hope that 1. this location works out for them. it is in a residential area and the neighbors are not real happy about the traffic 2. they add grilled grouper to their menu 3. they expand their opening days to include friday evening as well. King Ribs is an Aruba tradition. One of the things i enjoy most is watching the folks that work at KR. It is almost like a party. I am glad that i brought my Lock n Lock containers to bring frozen KR home to FLA! BTW, 1 Large dinner feeds 2 people.

During the last trip to Aruba, the Lady and I were wandering the streets behind the main street and we stumbled across the most amazing smelling barbeque joint. Was this by chance the temporary location? I see on the facebook page that the grand opening was April 23, about 2 weeks after we left the island, so I'm assuming and hoping that was the "old" location and the new one we're all talking about is where I'll be heading next time we're in paradise.

Driving Directions Video
So, since people have been asking how to get to King Ribs, I made a video of actually driving there. It starts on the main highway, approaching the "Wendy's" traffic circle, near the container port and goes all the way to King Ribs. You can see the actual route you'll take, a point of view looking out the front window of the car.
The music is royalty free, which means the video should not be blocked, but let me know here if it is. Here's the link: http://bentpage.wordpress.com/2011/0...ng-ribs-aruba/ Bon dia. 44 |
