Just our own opinions.......

CILO - we go here for lunch quite a bit when we're downtown. Nice place, good food.

Marandi - always good!

Sunset Grille - closed right now due to the renovations at the Radisson. But...we haven't eaten here since the chef left and want to Pago Pago at the Westin (so we go to Pago Pago now. )

Yemanja - always excellent!

Wacky Wahoo - again, always excellent (definitely need reservations since it's small and always busy)

Papiamento - we go here on occasion. It's good but other places are better for less money. We still continue to go though about every 3 or so years.

Chalet Suisse - we used to go here every year many years ago when there were not alot of restaurants on the island. It's still good but it's food that we feel we can get at home so we like going to other places instead that aren't so "old school".

Hadicurari - over-priced

Moby Dick's - never been there (we tend to stay away from the "mall restaurants")

Marina Pirata - a favorite of many people. We've been here a few times and it was always good as long as you order from their menu. If you want your fish done any other way (which I always do ), then it doesn't turn out so well.

Ruinas del Mar - haven't been here in years! It was good typical hotel food (quality was good and ambiance outside was great but nothing new to write home about.)

Imo, you do not hear a lot about Marina Pirata due to the fact that it is off the beaten path. It is not that they are not busy, it has always been packed with locals when we have eaten there.

We considered Wacky Wahoo instead this year, but after some of the conversations here about difficulty in obtaining a reservation, crowded and noisy, we opted for Marina Pirata instead.

Marandi too is off the beaten path.

With the taxi fare increase in 2009, I believe it may have hurt some of these restaurants that are further from the tourist areas.

We were at Wacky Wahoo a few weeks ago and it was quite good. The seafood was really fresh, the service good, and it seemed to be running more smoothly than i remembered in the past. They had our table ready right on time and the service was prompt without being too pushy. It was crowded and reservations are a must but the ac was working well and it was a very comfortable dinner. We will definitely be back at WW again next year.

Forgot to add that we have never gone to Cilo because we know someone who had a very bad experience there.

Chalet Suisse we had gone to year after year, and frankly just got tired of it and moved on to some newer restaurants. You know the same old complaint that there are more restaurants to eat at than we have nights of vacation to enjoy them all.

We stopped going to Papiamento because it had gotten so expensive and though good, on our last visit, did not feel it was great as it had been.

I have been to all the restaurants I had listed, just wondering who had been lately...
Thanks for the tip on Sunset Grille, cross that off the list.

Give Barefoot a try. In the original Marandi location by the airport. Walking distance from the Ren. we had a great experience there in May. will be back for sure in November.

Moby Dick closed a few months ago and owner closed a few investments and left. Sunset Grille was closed a few months for renovation and recently may ahve opened. Marina Pirati still a favorite and if go request carlos and ask for best table.
