Everyone will have their own likes and dislikes. Not everyone is going to like the same restaurant, same food, etc. There are plenty of restaurants in Aruba that I know other people love and rave about and I don't like them at all. Just my own personal preferences. I read reviews on everything (from restaurants in Aruba to when I'm shopping for a new TV or new running shoes) - just need to take all reviews with a grain of salt - they're helpful to a certain extent but you still need to use your own best judgment.

I have to admit, MJ's is not my favorite, although it gets many raves. It's not bad, but I've just never been "wowed" like so many others. We've dined there 5 times in the last year. Now MJ's is one of my husbands favorite restaurants.

We thought our dinner at MJ's last Feb. was the best meal we had on the island. I had a shrimp casserole that was to die for. My husband had the crusted grouper, which he loved. Our desserts were excellent also. Just curious, Jerseygirl, what's your favorite restaurant? I'm always looking for new ones to check out.

MJs is always good when we go there!

There have been some critical reviews the past few weeks at another site dedicated to restaurants in Aruba which the OP was likely referring to; but they've been from longtime customers, not unknowns with a shady agenda.

Places and experience can change, and as a customer as far back as May 2000 at MJ's can tell you they have and did. In the case of the recent reviews the posters simply expressed change from their previous experiences.
Aruba where the toughest question each day is "where to dine tonight".

We have had mixed experiences at MJ's. Sometimes it is TOP NOTCH and other times just average. I think on our next trip at the end of this month we are skipping it and trying somewhere new.

We've been there twice. The first visit was great, the second so-so. We're not returning this time, based on our last experience and the great variety of other places to try.

We've been there several times over the years. For atmosphere, we haven't been to a nicer place. Very pleasant, relaxed ambiance. Musical entertainment. The service was always right on.

I'm a fussy customer. I found the food good but not great. I never ate a meal that wow'ed me.

I'm not sure, but the hype may have set our expectations too high. We always heard how great this place was and that we HAD TO try it. Always heard rave reviews. That sets high expectations and sets you up for disappointment.

Perhaps the same meal at a different, less highly recommended, would have given us a different impression.

I'm new to this site and I have been keeping a list of new places to eat next year. Maybe I shouldn't read all the rave reviews...

no, continue to read all reviews and remember that YOU are your own judge. if there is something that does not "wow" you, so be it.

i have been to a number of places that WOWED me that folks hated and vice versa
my all time favorites in aruba have come and gone.
    Elenoras Crazy Grill
    Tabasko
and in years past......Old Conucu House WOWED me.......but i do not even know if it is still open. it changed hands a couple of times in the early 2000s, i lost track.

    all superb in my opinion
both Tabasko and Elenoras are now out of business
