I promised the Outlaws that we'd try it again. As we're going to be arriving after an Oink Fest in Europe, the expectation is going to be pretty high. We're also hoping there's still cash in the chicken fillets to help pay for the trip.

I'm sure we will go again. I think I would like the porch area better than the gravel, thanks for the tip. Peg, I don't think we had dessert, but I can't remember.
The rushed feeling may have just been our server. They asked if we wanted a box while Jon still eating. If I am remembering correctly they brought our check before we asked for it, and we had finished our drinks and were considering another. Like I said, we will likely go again, it wasn't that much if a turn off, just felt a little like a chain restaurant at home where they want to get you in and out. Could have just been an off day.

I have never felt rushed there and most times it is our last night on the island - which bothers me because there is always left overs that we can't take with us, but I love because we get to sit around and talk about the trip and enjoy the family in a setting that feels like our own yard - not that my yard looks or feels anything like MJs, it's just the feeling we get there. Of course, we are usually dining with no less than 10-12 people - prob difficult to rush a party that large.

Re: the original post - some people just like to hear themselves complain. And like their complaints heard. Unfortunately in this digital age WAY too many people hear those complaints and take them for their word.

I am not sure if we will get to MJ's on our trip. But, it seems to be a favorite from everything I see.

Tripadvisor probably deserves its own topic. I am not even sure some good reviews can be trusted. The negative reviews definitely seem to be about attacking when standards are not met. And those standards sometimes are ridiculous.

If you drink enough vodka, it'll feel like you're sitting up straight.

    Let's mark this one, "Solved".

I remember the first time we went to Aruba and I was reading reviews of the Divi AL on TripAdvisor and I was really nervous. It was wonderful and I couldn't understand the bad reviews. People just have different views of what they like and don't like. And as others have said, people take grudges out on social media. There was just a case in my hometown of a jewelry store getting a bad review on Yelp and it turned out a competing store had submitted it - ended up in court. I take all reviews with a grain of salt now. Some people just like to complain and now with social media it has gone to a new level. So many people are so nasty now and I think social media just fuels the fires. Me - as long as I don't have to cook it and clean up after it, I'm good!!
Hopefully we'll be back in Spring 2018

DW & I have been going to Aruba every year since 2001 and have gone to MJ's almost on every visit. I can't say that we were ever disappointed with our meal. The Almond Crusted Grouper is excellent ! The gravel seating area sometimes gives an non-evenness to the chairs, but not an issue. We plan to return during our visit in August.

ArubaAce, if you've never tried the schnitzle at MJs, you're really missing something!

I've never felt rushed at Mj and the service has been slow at times but I'm usually enjoying a drink and listening to the music. The gravel table is not my favorite but I've sat there on 2 occasions. On my last visit it was the last night on the island so I opted to share an entry of the rack of lamb. Everybody kept telling me how wonder the dish looked and wished they had ordered it. I have to say it was the best rack of lamb I ever tasted and the portion was huge so I'm glad we shared since we would not be able to take any left overs with us. They did charge $7 for sharing which by the way there were some complaints on trip advisor about that but so what. The $7.00 includes an extra side for the person who is sharing the entry so in reality they are not charging you to split an entry because the side cost exactly $7.00. Marea, I may have to try the schnitzel at MJ. I had it once at Chalet Suise and it was very greasy so I usually only order it at Bavaria.
