    New Year's Eve

    Hi everyone,
My husband, our 20 year old daughter and I will be spending Dec. 24-Jan 1 in Aruba (yeah!). I've got a question about a good place to spend New Year's Eve. We are not looking for a crazy party or need anything fancy but instead any recommendations for somewhere to have a nice dinner, good atmosphere and walk out and watch the fireworks? I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this. It will be our last night before we head home!

    Cheers!

    Meg

I can only tell you what we have done in the past for NYE and we're doing the exact same thing this year because we enjoyed it so much.

We stay at Amsterdam Manor on Eagle Beach and they have a 5 course dinner with tables set up around their pool area - this includes music, dancing around the pool, NYE hats, decorations, etc., free champagne at midnight for guests, followed by fireworks on the beach. It's actually fairly low key (not a ton of people since it's a small resort) but alot of fun and festive (and the food is great!) I would assume most hotels do something similar. I would check with the hotel you're staying at or one nearby to see what they offer. You don't have to be staying at the hotel to go to their NYE's parties or dinners but it's best to stay somewhat close to where you're staying that night since the roads get packed and there's alot of traffic. It's also very difficult to get a taxi if you don't have a rental car.

Looking forward to our 7th or 8th New Year's Eve on the Island in the last 11 years this year. Our tradition has always been to head up to the California Lighthouse for Sunset with a champagne toast. We then have a nice dinner somewhere - still deciding on where to go this year.

We stay at our condo - and typically have our own party with friends in front or by the pool. At midnight we set off fireworks and go for a swim!

I have always wanted to go back up to the lighthouse to watch the entire Island light up at midnight. Might do it this year now that my daughter is bigger.

    Thanks everyone!
We are staying in a condo about 1/3 mile from Palm Beach. None of us are really into lots of crowds or one of the large resorts for New Year's but it would be fun to do something special. I love the idea about the Amsterdam Manor - it sounds pretty low key. I love the lighthouse idea too!

I feel very lucky to even get to consider all this! This will be our first trip to Aruba!! Thanks everyone =)

Amsterdam Manor just posted their menu for New Years Eve - it's at the following link on the right hand side of the page:

Decor and attire (for staff). Attire for guests is Caribbean Elegance (which can be anything from dressy to casual.)
