I am struggling to pick a place to go for dinner on NYE. We have done taste of Belgium a few times and we had a very casual meal at a the Lazy Turtle in the mall last year.

We have a party of 7 or 8 this year - and I just can't pick!

We are already booked for the NYE dinner / party at Amsterdam Manor. Always a fun night wherever you choose!

Andrea - If it were just my daughter and wife I would be able to choose. But we have another family joining us this year and they hate making reservations - so I am trying to please everyone.

I think I may do Taste of Belgium --- I have'nt had dinner there in a couple years and it is always good and a little different.

More formal dinners will be the other nights!

I'm not into spending big bucks at the resort hotels sitting in a ballroom with people I don't know as tables are usually set-up for 10 people. Same for Amsterdam Manor. Though I go to dinner at Mango's when I'm on the island, it's not a place I would spend NYE sitting with strangers. I usually stay next door to A.M. at La Cabana. If they had a nice NYE party I might spend the evening there as I know a lot of people that work there and other guests that I've met when I've stayed other years over the holidays. But if I never stayed at La Cabana it wouldn't interest me to spend the evening with people I don't know. I rather just go out to a nice dinner before the fireworks. We have had dinner at Papillon (across from the Hilton) quite a few times on NYE and always had a very good meal there.

I like the idea of a celebration for NYE but I too would pass on any setup that had me sitting with people I did not know. It is one of the reasons I would not attend one of the smaller locations such as two fools etc...I am very social BUT only if I know you and I don't go out to dinner to meet other people in order to be social...I could be in the minority on that one, not sure. The only exception would be meeting forum friends at legends etc...and you folks are not strangers, just friends that i have not met in person yet.

I'm with you regarding 2 fools, etc. It has nothing to do with cost. I have zero interest in sitting at basically a bar with strangers on both sides of me.

Edit: I'm usually a solo traveler to Aruba as hubby has to work so I can indulge in my Aruba addiction. I dine out every night sitting at the bar. When I'm at a restaurant bar I usually don't shut up talking to the bartender and whoever is sitting next to me. But at places like 2 fools I have no interest sitting with strangers for 3-4 hours. That's way to long.

My dislike of two fools setup also has zero to do with cost, its just not attractive to be. I enjoy talking with my wife at dinner or if I am on my own I too sit at the bar or at a table where i know the waiter/waitress.

I don't know, I kind of like the idea of celebrating with other people, a good way to get to know new people. I wouldn't want to dine every night at a restaurant that sits you with other people but for an occasion like NYE, I think it would be fun. I went on a cruise years ago (when single) with a friend of mine and since there were just two of us, they sat us at a table with 8 other people, a family with 4 teens, grandparents. we were ready to scream but by the time dinner was over, we had so much fun. But like I said, I wouldn't go to a restaurant where I had to sit with other people every night but an occasion like NYE, that would be alot of fun (hopefully). You can always end up getting stuck with a bunch of boring people but its NYE, just do a couple of shots, lol.
