    outdoor dining after sunset

I'm looking for what everyone's thoughts are on requesting outside dining after the sun sets. I keep reading reviews where people are complaining about the bugs after the sun went down. We usually like to eat after 7-7:30 so I don't want to request outside dining at the places that offer it. Should we stick to eating inside?

bg, i moved your question/posting to a new thread in culinary.

    yes there are mosquitos....sometimes.
aruba has been incredibly dry and the mossies have not been too terrible lately.
that being said...use deet insect repellent and you will be fine!

we ate out at MJs in May and not a bug was near me.
we also ate out on our patio where we were staying and no mossies that bothered us.

personally........after a long day in the sun, i prefer to be indoors in air conditioning, even if there is a breeze.

There are places that have indoor spaces that feel like outdoors, like Barefoot under their giant palapa. They even have tables with sand under the tables so it will feel outside. Madame Janettes "indoor space" is more of a patio. I generally worry more that the weather might change, than about the mosquitoes. We have never had an issue but I do know others have.

We always visit in the summer months and have never had a bug problem with outside dining and prefer to dine outside.

We returned from Aruba on June 16. For 10 nights, we ate outdoors every night with the exception of one and did not encounter any bugs.

We've never had problems at restaurants on the beach - always when we're at home inland... I suspect it's because there's more standing water and greenery (a breeding ground for mosquitoes) than near the beach. We always eat inside when at the villa but never have a problem on the beach.

We almost always eat outside at night and we go to dinner later than most (around 8:30pm). In all of our trips to Aruba, we've only had a mosquito problem a couple of times but that was after an unusual amount of rain and there was alot of standing water around. But otherwise, no issues at all.

As long as there is a good breeze where you are the mosquitos will not be a problem. The only time I have ever gotten a bite was on Renaissance Island walking the nature trail. There are millions of them there on that trail and deet is a must. We eat at several places that are outside but covered and never have a bug problem. the Pelicans Nest is right on the water, Matthews is right on the beach. We ate at MJs this last trip and no bugs. We used to eat outside at MJs but have gotten a table on their patio the last few years because of DWs walking problems, not bugs. the gravel is hard for her to walk on.

This is off topic a bit, but we were on Renaissance Island one time and noticed a man with his two older sons take off on the nature trail. A few minutes later they came running back off the trail waving their arms and swatting like crazy at a swarm of mosquitoes. They were so thick you could see the cloud of them chasing the guys. When I read this thread to DW this morning we both had a laugh at the memory. We eat both inside and out for dinner, on the beach and inland, and have never been bothered by bugs.
