Papillon

Three of us dined at Papillon the other night. The restaurant is located in the "Village" complex which is across the boulevard from the Radisson.

We took a seat outside (against my rules normally but okay) and proceeded to review the menu. Mrs. 44 likes escargot and she ordered it straight away along with a glass of Pinot Grigiot. Cousin of 44 had a merlot while I chomped a most fantastic salad, sans booze.

Entrees came next: salmon for Cousin of 44, duck for Mrs. 44, and a filet for 44 himself. All very good. Portions are reasonable as opposed to gigantic like too many places these days.

Service was very good and knowledgeable, worth the 15% plus a little tip. Atmosphere is also quaint with one exception: the tv monitor playing the movie Papillon has to be removed, very distracting. Prices are at the upper limit of my budget, sky high compared to my local joints. But this was a special night out and it turned out to be worth the investment.

For photos see this link: http://bentpage.wordpress.com/2009/0...ant-aruba-dwi/

Bon dia.

44, in your opinion was it better than Screaming Eagle?

i been to Papillon a few times. The movie IS distracting. The food is very good but not alot of food for the high price. The owners are the same as Taste of Belgium Bistro at Paseo Herencia Mall and they recently opened CILO in the Villa Germania location at Renaissance Marketplace at the Seaport. http://cilo-aruba.com/

Arubalisa,

I would say Screaming Eagle is slightly better, but also that Screaming Eagle is a different type of experience than Papillon.

Papillon is a small restaurant, a bit less formal (not that SE is super formal), and doesn't have that "lounge" feel.

So, tough to say. Screaming Eagle's food is probably one quarter notch better in terms of taste. But this is only one person's opinion.

DH and I don't need a lot of food either. When I'm on vacation, I eat much less than I do at home. As I said I been to Papillon. If I was disappointed in the amount of food then I wouldn't have gone back. But there are people that are big eaters.

Liz, thanks for posting info on Cilo. Menu looks perfect ! We really missed Villa Germania for breakfasts, so this place looks like a good fit in replacement.
