After much thought, dh not only decided we should try OMTS, he would like to go by taxi. He figures this way
    • he can drink some wine
    • the extra $20 difference between renting a car or taking a taxi is really not all that much in the big picture
    • since we like to eat dinner later, not getting lost trying to find the place in the dark <<== priceless

lisa.....dh is a wise man. for those that are planning on taking the cab, remember to have the hostess call the cab service when you order your desert. i made the mistake of waiting until we finished and had to wait 20 mins for the cab to arrive.

YES! The reason I married him, as well as the fact that he cooks!

    Will do, thank you.

Passion vs Old Man and the Sea

what's the main difference b/w the two? we've been to the flying fishbone and OMATS but we never tried passions. is it that great compared to the others?

personally i favored OMATS to flying fishbone.

on a scale of 1 to 10, here's my opinion....
    10 OMATS
    8 FF
    4 Passions...
Price, service and ladies room are all considered....

that bad? is it just like the simply fish dinner at the stellaris or the other beach dining services provided by the hotels?

I cannot compare Passions to Simply Fish, but I can tell you that my husband will not eat at Ruinas del Mar because to him it is "typical" catered hotel fare.

He did though love his food/dinner at Passions. We had excellent service and an overall terrific dinner. We'll be celebrating our anniversary there again this year.

Later on the week, at Cindy and Rob's recommendation, we'll be having dinner at Old Man and the Sea. I am confident we will enjoy dinners at both restaurants. From my review of Passions:

"Friday night for our anniversary, a friend as well as my parents, had recommended Passions on the beach at the Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort.

When we arrived we were immediately greeted by Diana the hostess/maître d' and everything from the food to the service, it was nothing less than perfect and a wonderful evening. Our table was closest to the water with torches and a lantern on the table. I can imagine how nice it would be at sunset, however since we can view that from the comfort of our patio, and like to eat later, dining under the stars with the Aruban tradewinds are just delightful in my book!

Dd had Caesar Salad with shrimp and a seafood sampler platter with Caribbean lobster tail, shrimp, grouper and mahi-mahi. I had a filet mignon and dh had grilled grouper and shrimp with a creamy spicy sauce. For an appetizer he had goat cheese with prosciutto, arugula and honey dressing, I had a crab salad. Everything was delicious! If anyone has that recipe for the crab salad you just pass it on to me.

Dessert was amazing ...a sampler with full size portions of cheese cake, tiramisu, raspberry mousse, key lime pie and chocolate cake. We practically rolled back to the Tamarijn."

    We've been to all 3.

Used to like FF but now they have too many tables and it doesn't seem romantic anymore when you're so close to the table next to you.

We went to the Old Man & The Sea last Sept. when they first opened. Loved it - good food, great ambiance. Looks like they've added more items to their menu since we've been there. We will probably go again on our Sept. trip.

Passions - been here about a half dozen times - good food, ambiance, and service. The one big plus that we like about Passions is not having to make the drive to Savaneta so we can drink our wine more freely. We go to Passions on every trip. Photo in my signature below was taken at Passions.

We would recommend both. Since you have a car this trip, do Old Man In The Sea & save Passions for when you don't have a car.

    Next Trip: Jan. 6 - April 7
