    Restaurant Wrap 11/23 to 12/3

Wrapping up on dining reviews (note:this post is the opinion of the reviewer and not necessarily fact)

Sidebar: this is the place for burgers or so it seemed with everyone ordering them. I had to be different and ordered the Dutch Sampler with bitterballen, frickendellen, chicken nuggets, Gouda Cubs and pickles. Service and food both good so Grade B

Quinta Del Carmen: our choice for Thanksgiving. The amosphere is absolutely lovely with it's courtyard dining and white lights. Service was very attentive and they gave a nod to the American tourist by offering a turkey entree for the holiday. I had the turkey with a sauce made of cranberries, atop a pumpkin mash with broccoli and asparagus. It wasn't ravable but it was good. Tom went with the piņa colada shrimp which he enjoyed. The highlight of the evening as their Nutella cheesecake, Tom wouldn't share more than a small bite but I did enjoy the apple strudel. The menu was somewhat limited, so Grade A-

Wilhemenia: this is where Tom and I part ways. They didn't have the langoustine so scallops were substituted so this shrimp dish as listed on the menu turned into a scallop dish. Tom wasn't thrilled with it. My tenderloin steak with peppercorn sauce on the other hand was positively phenomenal. An amuse of Dutch Pea Soup and bitterballen stuffed with shrimp and cheese complimented each other while the short rib/foie gras ravioli offered an earthy note. Fresh baked bread with herb butter was so good it was difficult to not just fill up on it. Dessert for Tom was a chocolate sampler with cake, mousse and dollop of ice cream which he deemed all right. I had a classic lemon pie that was quite tart but balanced off with the chantilly cream. So... Tom's Grade D my Grade A-

Elements: we had lunch here while checking out the Bucuti. Bright modern/contemporary dining either on the deck or the air conditioned glass in dining room. Great quesadillas, service a little stiff. So... Grade B

Hollywood Smokehouse: nothing fancy but a favorite for BBQ. Love their BBQ and hot sauce, always order the pulled pork. It's also very inexpensive. Grade B+

Matthews. Well if you read my separate review you'll know our grade and that would be Grade D

Cafe the Plaza. What a nice surprise this place was right near the Ocean Suites. Staff was great, very relaxed. I went which chicken shoarma with garlic cream sauce served with a basket of fries and a side salad; Tom went with the ribs, messy but good. The bartender came Over to our table with extra handi wipes and said enjoy them eat with your fingers!
Banana ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Need I say more! Grade A

West Deck. This is a favorite for us. We love the setting at the beach and the Carribean vibe. This evening we did apps of coconut shrimp, conch fritters with a spicy cream dipping sauce and the Carribean bread basket. I also snuck in 2 Carribean Prides, a delicious drink concoction recommended by our lovely server. So... Grade A

Dutch Pancake House. OMG. I absolutely loved this place. We were looking for something lighter for dinner so I ordered the Dutch Pancake with bacon, onion and cheese. It was salty and sweet and had a little crunch from crispy bacon. We dined outside and listened to the band. I ate that whole dinner plate sized pancake!!! Tom went with the fricandellen which is sort of a hot dog/ sausage with French fries. So... Grade A+

LaFocaccia Bakery. Nice little bakery where you can purchase take away or stay and grab a table outside with something sweet. The staff goes out of their way to explain everything they have in their case. We went a few times, the sweets were good but the mango turnovers are amazing. The puff pastry stays flaky and crisp even after a few days. I picked up some for breakfast in our room for our last day. So... grade A

We love Dutch Pancake House too. We like to stop in for lunch when we are downtown. We usually split one of the savory pancakes for our meal, and then split one of the sweet pancakes for dessert. Our son in law tried the dutch potatoes and said that they were the best he'd ever had, so we'll try those next time too. We also love West Deck. It's so great for a casual dinner and a great view. We're looking forward to trying the new bakery and Side Bar when we move to Renaissance on our next trip. I'm not sure where Cafe The Plaza is, but I'll look for it. Thanks for all of the time that you spent on all of your reports.
