Can anyone recommend a restaurant (or a few) that would be good for a group of about 12 adults? We don't really want a stuffy atmosphere (it is a birthday celebration). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

For that many:
Gasparito --- ask for outside seating.
French Steakhouse --- ask for the Garden area.

i'd recommend "promenade"
"madam janette" outdoor seating
"tulip" outdoor seating

Matthews at CasaDelMar would be perfect.

I think it all depends on what type of admosphere and food you're looking for. Almost all restaurants can and will accomodate groups.If you are looking for something high end Matilde may be one.If you're looking for outdoors seating Madam Jeanette, Marina Pirata, Gianni's, Troteria Faro Blanko are just to name a few.If you're looking for indoors El Gaucho, French Steak house, Cooks Restaurant are just a few.Cooks can provide a unique admosphere since it is very nice inside but also you or the Chef can grill the Steaks on a large grill in the middle of the restaurant. Its like being outside but yet with the comfort of indoors.
