Just returned from Aruba On Sunday and still recovering! We visited and enjoyed the following restaurants!
Diana's Pancake Place - She is located in the old dutch mill by the high rise. Easy walking distance. We really enjoyed the dutch pancakes - they are thin like a crepe, but there are lots of fruit and meat toppings that she can put on. I had apple and bacon - Yum! She is so friendly and took time to talk with us and take a picture - look for it on her facebook page. She is very familiar with the people on the forum. Not expensive. This is a great place for breakfast - DON'T MISS IT!!
Matthews - I had breakfast there the last day. The breakfast is awesome and very inexpensive, no more than what we pay at our local café. Great beachside location. Service was good. Try the Pastechis - Aruban breakfast fried rolls filled with cheese and ham.
Smokey Joe's - my friend had the ribs and I had the Jamaican Jerk Chicken - Delicious!!. Very reasonable prices, great outdoor seating, easy walking distance to the Radisson. I would do again.
Texas De Brazil - Beautiful inside. We were seated right away with no wait. Service was great; attentive but not overbearing. The salad bar is wonderful. My only reservation would be that it is quite expensive for the amount that I like to eat - If you are a big eater and want to try a large variety, you will enjoy it but be prepared for the check.
Wacky Wahoo - we were lucky to get a table at 9 without a reservation. Their dishes are fantastic! I had the special with a large grouper filet topped with shrimp and scallops. Absolutely fantastic. Everyone enjoyed their meal and I would consider it the highlight of the entire trip save for...
Madame Jeanette's - OMG, this place is everything that people say it is. We had a 730 reservation and were seated with no wait. I got to meet Kasi and told him how much we appreciate his comments on the forum. The ambiance is fantastic - outside with the soft lights and foliage. We had excellent service, the best of the trip!. The crab cake appetizer was superb - lots of crab and a delicious sauce. We all had beef in one form or another - I had the butcher steak which was so tender and cooked beautifully. A funny thing happened - my friend spilled a glass on wine on me near the end of the meal - just an accident, but I was so impressed with the wait staff and how they tried to help with a wash cloth, club soda, and towel. They even replaced the spilled wine! Then we had a surprise when we treated to spoon dessert from Kasi! This restaurant has truly earned its reputation as the best on the island and I cannot thank Kasi and his staff enough for a wonderful meal and experience. Two of my friends were on the island for the first time and they were blown away. Thanks again, and MJ will be at the top of our list again next time.
I am please to report that Aruba has converted two more Kansans (in addition to me and Jeff) to being return visitors! Thanks to all for your recommendations. Andrea, is there anyone on the island that you don't know??
The "musts" that I will go to again are: Diana's, Wacky Wahoo, and MJ.
