If it's the policy of the restaurant that shorts are acceptable, and some people feel that sitting near somebody with shorts on is unacceptabe, I guess they should find somewhere else!

FWIW, I would not be embarassed to be seen with my dh at LG Smith's if he were dressed in a nice pair of cotton twill shorts and shirt with a button down collar. Yes, he will be wearing sneakers, but his comfort is pretty darn important to me. If he is comfortable, he can concentrate more on enjoying the precious time we spend together.

although I am getting replies on dress codes of various places almost all which are casual and shorts are accepted...How comfortable will we be if we are the only ones to show up in dress shorts etc.
(I mean if we are going to a nice place to eat-- we wont dress as we would if we were visiting the beach--

You will certainly not feel out of place. One night dh and I went to the Sunset Grille at the Radisson for dinner. He was wearing a long sleeve oxford shirt and dress slacks as well as dress shoes. The smiling hostess greeted and sat the couple ahead of us who wear both wearing CUT-OFF jean shorts.

It was then and there that dh pronounced that he would never get dressed up for dinner anywhere on the island ever again. The restaurants do not care how you dress as long as you are not in a bathing suit. They want your $$$$.

Besides the fact if you are dining outdoors, any poor man with long pants would truly suffer in the heat most months of the year.

Well 3 things, apparently by other responses, you would not be the only one. It is possible to wear shorts, and not" look like you are visiting the beach", and finally if by chance you are the only one, don't be afraid to be oringinal. Many people will wear pants, and most people who go to Aruba understand it's acceptable to wear shorts. Just because some choose to wear shorts to the few finer places, doesn't mean we don't enjoy spending a couple hundred dollars on a nice meal! Now if you are still so closed minded about the subject, I guess there is no more to say...
