Our local Ruth's Chris is also overrated. Way overpriced and mediocre food. Madame Janettes and El Gaucho blow it out of the water. Don't waste your time on chains when traveling / go for the local flavor and culture of the island! If anyone has any other recommendations, let me know. Three days and I am there!

I have never eaten at Ruth Chris but I agree with the other posts that I would rather enjoy the local fare rather than going to a Steak House that I can drive to in 30 mins.

Ruth's Chris

Hi everyone,

I said in one of my earlier post that I would check out how the Ruth's Chris restaurant is in Aruba. This past Saturday I decided to surprise my mom, brother and sister to a nice dinner at Ruth's Chris. (Mother's day celebration)

Made the reservation a day earlier and the lady at the phone attended me nicely. They start to take reservations after 1pm.

When we arrived I noticed that it was pretty busy. We were nicely greeted and seated. The host also introduced us to our waiter of the night Cesar. When we arrived at our table (big and comfortable) there were white napkins on the table. These were changed to black ones, in order to match our clothing and to not leave white lints on our clothes, the host explained. (I liked this small detail)

When Cesar arrived he introduced himself nicely and asked what we wanted to drink and handed us the menus. The drinks (juices) were brought quickly and were fresh and good. Cesar was a real salesperson, I felt that he was trying to sell us as much as possible... didn't like that much. I had an US prime cut steak, my mom and sister had a filet mignon and my brother had a t-bone steak, we all had an appetizer as well.

I ordered my steak medium, well done. Unfortunately it came out to raw with still blood inside. The other steaks were good. We had a good time, the ambiance was nice but I missed the music, you could only hear people talking and eating.

When we were done and I wanted to pay we got a surprise. They didn't accept atm cards. Only credit cards! As locals we normally just charge our atm cards. I had to go all the way to the Casino to withdraw money from an atm. They told us that since they are just open they didn't have this atm machine yet. I would have preferred to know this beforehand when I made the reservation. Again locals don't normally use credit cards when we are in Aruba.

The total charge was $310 dollars. I thought that it was expensive.

Just my experience at the Ruth's Chris.

Any body who know the chain, they are definitely the trend setter and the most expensive of the chain steakhouses.
Did you make your server aware of the issue?
I have been to six different locations and more than once to a few. I once got a steak the was closer to medium rare than medium. They brought out a completely new steak to me within 5 minutes cooked to perfection and the Filet was free of charge.
I am not sure how it we plan on visiting R'sC, Sunset Grille, and LG Smith's during our upcoming 3 week stay and report back to the forum with a comparison.

To be honest I would not go back... Why? If I am paying that amount of money I expect my food, the steak to be perfect the first time. I should not be put in a position where I would have to send the food back. Again the service was good. The ambiance was nice. We had a good time but the food didn't reach my expectation. (personal opinion)

If there's anyone else on this forum that also visited Ruth's Chris in Aruba share your opinion and let us know what you thought of Ruth's Chris Aruba.

I was at madame jeanette two weeks ago and my steak there was just perfect. I've had a better steak at El Gaucho as well. This was also what my brother told me. He enjoyed his t-bone but said that the one he had at El Gaucho was better. (ps. M.J. and El Gaucho are cheaper too)

We are locals (native Arubans) who visit different restaurants in Aruba regularly. I enjoy going out and trying different restaurants. If I like the restaurant I will visit it again, otherwise I won't.

Although I did not go to this restaurant, my niece's parents went TWICE while there during our 2 week stay. I know its not for me due to price and having one in Providence, however they loved it. Raved about it in fact. They enjoyed that the most of any place they went.
