OMATS did nothing for me in November while we where there, personally I enjoyed my table and atmosphere better at the Flying Fishbone. For the cab fare and cost of dinner I think we will stick with Pinchos. Nice and close, great food, and has a beatiful sunset. Overall

We were there shortly after they first opened in Sept. 2008 and it was wonderful. Didn't go in 2009 because of a few so-so reviews and also wanted to try some new places. We were thinking of going back on our trip in May but......seems like the reviews are getting worse, not better.

I think we will stick with Passions for our beach dining....then my hubby can drink all the wine he wants with dinner since he won't have to drive (we stay at Amsterdam Manor...it's an easy crawl back to our room!)

It would be nice if the owner made some sort of statement here and I for one, would be willing to take another gamble on the restaurant in December 2010, if changes were made. The problem is that I don't think that he believes the people that have approached him.

We used to go to Flying Fishbone but we found that OMATS was a better option. OMATS had better staff and the tables were so nicely placed that you enjoyed a truly wonderful dining experience. The positive comments on this BB helped get this place noticed when it first opened and it quickly become a destination restaurant for many.

SO PEOPLE AT OMATS, if you read this, please understand that we are not criticizing for the sake of criticizing, we want you to do something and bring it back to its former glory!! We love the place........

We went there twice during our vacation in 2008 and thought it was awesome... Yes it was expensive and a long ride but the food, service and atmosphere made it so worth it!
2009 we decided to skip it due to the negative reviews and from what I am reading we are not the only customers that have not returned due to the reviews.
I think the owner really needs to pay attention and rectify the situation or the demise of the restaurant is most assuredly on the horizon.

wow, that sure isn't good for business. And then sending them an email with no response, Not good at all.
I would have tried this on a next trip, (first trip we did flying fishbone) but who would now.
do you think they are having a problem with there internet and that is why a response hasn't been recieved? And I am sure calling them is out of the question, due to the cost. Do you think they closed down? Can that be confirmed?

Ya know what is interesting here...
#1 OMATS hasn't responded to ANYONE, so, they don't CARE...
#2 Many people aren't going to go there due to the poor reviews
#3 We have MJ's chef Kasi, who is an active member of this board, so there is no reason OMATS shouldn't do the same thing, join, and post
#4 I will not being going back. The people that have responded on the forum are well traveled in Aruba and are "aruba-foodies", they all know their food.

So, OMATS owner, chef, staff...you loose...to bad.
Randi, thank you for posting and keeping us informed. You've saved us all $$$$$.

This is sad. I went there when the place first opened. It was great. I was back several times and it was still good. I put it on my blog and so forth. Now that I hear this, I'll have to let it slip into oblivion.

I mentioned before that I was going to tune up my reviews. This is a wake-up call for me.

Thus, when I dine at other places on the island that are lettings things go, I'll be posting blunt reviews.

    Bon dia.

Actually because of your recommendation it was what alerted me to this new restaurant as we are always trying to find somewhere new to try each visit. Then other people started going and it became a very popular restaurant. It wasn't uncommon for DH and I to go there twice in a trip!

Going back to 07-07-2009, in our case
    http://www.aruba.com/forum/f12/old-man-sea-review-39791/#post144448,
the owner responded with an apology and detailed the steps and actions he was taking in order to make his restaurant the best that it possibly could be.

Now, if that has not happened...that is a totally different story.

I'm with you Mark - Pinchos is close, priced right and usually good food. Pincho's atmosphere is amazing after the sun goes down. Pinchos is the only restaurant we have visited on EVERY trip we have taken to Aruba.

Our next trip we are going with a group of friends and we will be bringing them ALL to Pinchos!
