    Senor Frogs Shuts Down

    From Rona Coster's column

Apparently last night past midnight a Mexican owners’ representative of Senior Frog’s entered the premises, emptied the safe, about $6,000, and announced the imminent closing of the Café/Bar.

For sale for the last few years, insiders reports that the Mexican mother-corporation abandoned its Aruban franchise recently, cutting staff meals, staff uniforms, and all budgets on renovations and marketing. The place is a dump, they report, and c...orporate doesn’t return any phone calls or answers any mail.

They also say the Mexican owners’ representative, did not explain anything, but just dismissed 30 workers, and walked away, destination unknown. The company’s lawyer here in Aruba, Allan Kuster, did not respond either to workers questions. Attorney Lincoln Gomez is handling the case, on their behalf.

The press is invited to meet the dismissed and outraged employees of Senior Frog’s at Bestuurkantor NOW, to help them defend their rights, and protect their workplace.

Senior Frog’s has been in its current location for 6 years. The Mexican corporation turned down an offer to buy by the landlords of the Village Mall, the Neme brothers. Meanwhile the place was emptied, no TVs no sound system, let's make sure the corporation doesn't get away with Mexican Bandito practices.

The worst part of this happening is the workers that are left in the lurch.... with no notice... that sucks.

I agree. We've had this happen in our home area quite a few times and the servers especially are left in such a bind.
We had a couple fun times at Senor Frogs and a couple other not so great. I think they priced thems elves out of business. That type of touristy place is great when you have a captive audience but Palm Beach has so many options that aren't quite as commercialized or well, cheesy for lack of a better description. For the night time croqd, you have Guston right there and a couple places over near Hard Rock too.

This "gentleman" just got stopped at the airport by immigration and currently is banned from leaving the island until he complies with the labor laws and payments he(or his company) owe to the belastingdienst(tax). Apparently the plane had already backed away from the gate and the control tower got an order from the police(immigration) to tell the pilot to return to the gate.

Its safe to say, he is hopefully going to be made a nice example of how NOT to do business on the island.

I always liked the downtown location better. Terrible thing for the workers, hope something good happens for them.

Well that bites!! Really sorry to hear about the shutdown, really feeling for the workers as they are the ones who will be most affected by this. I always wanted to stop in and check it out, a friend of mine who will be visiting Aruba in September 2017 was advised by his sister-in-law to check it out. Guess not, however there are alternatives to Senior Frogs for the young and young at heart to still cut loose. Can't believe that the cops were able to get the aircraft to return to the terminal, sound like something that you only see on tv. Hopefully something can be done with the place to turn it into something else( club, restaurant etc) which can provide employment for locals.

that is not the first time a "bad guy" has been apprehended before "wheels up"!!

about 10 or 12 years ago, there was a situation with a deceased tiger and its owner.
too long for me to type on the ipad right now...bottom line is the dead tiger's owner was apprehended pretty much the same way this "senor frogs" guy was.

i am sure there have been others

reminds me of my high school chem teacher which was a very funny story (i will post in off topic)

    Starr is a Star

She texted me at 6:16am, about the evil Anderson corporation, emptying the safe, and taking all valuable equipment out of Senior Frog’s in an effort to ditch the franchise in Aruba, and avoid paying their bills.
She texted every media members in town, got Police, Immigration and the Tax Authority involved. Starr Ramos is obviously a fast thinking girl.
As the Sales and Marketing person for Senior Frog’s, the loud, swill-bucket-food café, on Palm Beach, she experienced the lack of funds and slashed budgets, but was unprepared for a man by the name of Daniel Orozco to arrived on the island on the late AA flight, with intensions to close down the joint and leave on the first flight out the following day.
But when she realized what the scenario was she moved, fast. End result: Immigration and Police intercepted, and took Orozco off the plane. He must have been shocked. He was sitting inside the aircraft ready to depart. He probably came here thinking this is a fast in and out job, land at night, axe 30 employees without explanation at about midnight, empty the safe, extract the sound system and freezers, get on a flight out the following day.
But Starr is a star, she got her support system together.
With the Police and Immigration’s blessing Orozco was escorted by his disgruntled employees to the tax office where Filomena Geerman added up everything owed by the corporation, advising him of their no-tiki-no-washi policy. You can’t pay what you owe? Then you cannot leave the country.
The employees’ lawyer Lincoln Gomez also informed the trouble Orozco that all employees must continue to receive salaries until the company’s bankruptcy goes through.
There was a poorly attended press conference last night, hosted by Orozco and his lawyer. But he too could not defend his thief-in-the-night tactics.
It is the company’s right to close a failing franchise, but the laws of this country must be respected. The Mexican Bandito behavior, is not appreciated in Aruba.
I think the unhappy employees of Aura Casino, left hanging since December last year should hire Starr Ramos as their consultant to help them with their case against their former SOB employer.
