maybe 10 or 12 yrs ago, tony roma's was a treat and was very reasonably priced.

times changed and somewhere along the line, maybe 7 or 8 yrs ago, tony romas did indeed become tony "ripoff" (thank you 9 yr old!!!)

and their food quality went way downhill.

i always did like their iced tea though.

My personal rule, if possible is to dine at places where the owner either greets you at the door or can be found in the kitchen. The restaurant biz is not for the faint of heart; you have to love it and it normally shows up on the dinner plate in front of you.

The purpose of corporations is to maximize profits. And my exceptions from a corporate chain place is to only "fill the pit".

re: the chef/owner meeting and greeting, i say absolutely right on the mark there!
there are some restaurants here in the culinary section where the owner or chef greet you and make inquiries on how/if you enjoyed the meal.
ex

ana marias
amadeus
cooks
buccaneer
matthews
madam janette
chefs table
marandi

and there are plenty more......
it could be a whole new thread
and i am sorry to have gone off topic.

anyone want to start a new topic where a personal greeting is extended?

Tony Romas

The restaurant has certainly gone down hill when the new owners took over. It is shame as we loved the old Tony Romas! The ribs used to be great plus they offered two sides such as corn on the cob and and baked potato with sour cream and butter. Umm!! The ribs have gone down hill too and over priced. Smokey Joes is a much better choice.

my wife and I eat at Tony Romas several times a trip but we only get the big salads and hot bread comes with it. I agree on the ribs so we never get them anymore. We get the asian salad. Its very good.
