Since we're on the topic of the wrongness of pickled things and drinks... The Spouse likes a martini or three before dinner and is VERY specific about it "Grey Goose with a lemon twist". Inevitably - and this has happened in most restaurants we've been to in Aruba - they make it dirty with olives. So now I always leap in and say, "You shake the vodka in ice chips, pour it into a chilled martini glass and then garnish it with a lemon rind twist."

I'm sure we've become renowned on the island for this pre-dinner show. "Ugh... here comes that Insane Martini Couple".

You know with the apps available now, every bartender anywhere should be able to make a proper drink with being told how to do it. Apps such as Mixology, Bartenders Choice and BeachBum Berry's Total Tiki make even the most exotic drink recipe available at your fingertips. A bartender's livelihood depends on their drinks and making them properly is the best way to get those extra tips.

I would say the trouble in Aruba would be stocking the right ingredients.
7 trips in and still finding things to love. #8 will be great in November!

Yes... lots of blank stares when I ask if they use simple syrup in their margaritas...

What they need to do is get away from the slushie machine and boxed drink mix and make drinks the way they are supposed to be made. But that is a problem in a lot of places, not just Aruba.
